now you're gonna hear about it
I've read a lot about ticket allocations to away games, customer numbers, general sales, etc., and I generally have no idea what these mean. If I want to travel to see a game when I visit your great island (at Goodison or in London, for instance) how to I go about securing tickets, and what is the protocol for attending a game?

For most US sports, tickets are available directly from the hosting team and can be purchased at a set date early in the pre season (generally all tickets available at the same time). Or I could visit stubhub.com or a similar site and buy a ticket off someone else if I needed. Finally, usually there are lads walking around the stadium selling tickets outside the park if I need to see a game and had no previous plans (granted that this is not a high-demand game). Also, I don't usually fear that I'll be punched in the face when I visit a rival team's stadium and watch the game (Philadelphia Flyers excluded), so any advice on how to avoid that is also appreciated. And I'd like to wear a shirt, so I don't plan to attend any games at Newcastle, but I'm relatively open.

So, if I want to attend a game, how should I go about doing this? Thanks.

It is very unlikely you could get hold of an away ticket in the Everton end mate, but could take your chances by buying direct from the host club, (as you refer to it), on the web. Trouble is, you will be in with the opposition fans, which if in a main stand, should be ok, unless you act like a total tit.

Protocol? If you are on your own, and have a ticket in the home supporters, dont wear an Everton shirt. Having a yank accent would not mark you out as a scouser, so you should enjoy the match ok. Most footie fans are sound, and if you get into conversation at most grounds, the fact that you are supporting Everton wouldnt be a problem. In fact, being from overseas, expect some good banter!

Best chance for a ticket? Sunderland probably. Massive ground, not selling out really, and decent home fans. Forget a "top 4 " game away, and Anfield.

Good luck mate.

Poster is from the South, so he will not have a "yank accent".:)

Except for some rare cases, in NA sports it's accepted to sit in hostile stands and cheer for your own team. Maybe you'll get a beer tossed on you, but that's the worst you should expect. (And not even that, with the price of beer at some parks). If I went to Sunderland, for example, I would expect to get jeers for supporting Everton, but would I be expected to shut up or could I reasonably rejoice in our lone goal en route to a disappointing 2-1 loss?

In NA, we usually reserve violence for rioting and looting the home town after winning championships (although Vancouver will riot for losses too).

The customer number is no big, I have one and never been across the pond. Had to get it to order a jersey or something. And as long as you don't have an English accent I can't imagine they'd give you too much grief, just make sure everyone around you hears your accent, so basically be an American stereotype.

Just start talking loudly, saying words like soccer, offensive line ups, rosters, locker rooms and give it plenty of Yee Ha whooping noises and everyone will be too busy laughing at you to worry about punching you for supporting the wrong team.

Hope you have a great time, it really will be a great experience no matter which ground you get to

What are rules--official or unofficial--for wearing colors at pubs? Does this matter, or does it matter only in certain areas or on certain days? There's obviously a difference between a full kit [Poor language removed] walking into the pub with his LFC shirt, shorts, socks, and brown dress shoes, and someone wearing a shirt and scarf under a jacket, but it's not obvious to me what's acceptable.
