How to convert VOB to MPEG for free?

So i bought a 3TB to backup all my DVD's/CD's/Photos etc etc...

Turns out when i try and play the VOB's back using Windows Media Player on my laptop, the VOB files/movies are unwatchable (choppy) or you if you try and skip to a part of the movie, it crashes.

the 3TB is using USB3 whilst my laptop is USB2 but i dont think thats the issue.

All my Xvid/MP4/DivX files work as sounds as a pound, but VOB's are a bit of a nightmare. Whats even more weird if it transfer the VOB files to an 8GB pen, it actually works ok????

Anyway, looking to know if anyone knows any good free program which lets you convert VOB to MPEG2 (all in 1 file) so that I can watch the movies on my laptop?

Also the Xbox doesnt recognise VOB files, so thats another reason why i need to convert VOB to MPEG2

It's free and there's no dodgy viruses as I've downloaded and used it a fair bit myself

That's the free version, there's a full version as with all these free downloads but I don't have the doe for that at the minute.

go to cnet downloads free ones on there,or ones with trials then just google for the reg code if you want to keep it,free ones normally do the job ok

I use handbrake mate. I convert all my vids to Mp4 so they can be thrown on the ipods, ipad or phones if needed. I'm like 90% sure it does convert to straight MPEG too. Always liked it as it's easy to use and open source.
