How the England team could look.....

Player Valuation: £500k
Now I ain't the biggest fan of the national team by any stretch, I'll watch the games and get smashed in the pub, safely knowing, we'll never perform THAT well.... The major gripe I've had since I got back into being a big footie fan is, it doesn't really matter how well you play as long as you play for the right club... Any young player who gets a couple starts, does alright, is then thrown straight into the national team...

It's never defenders though to be honest, almost always a winger or midfielder player.... Why is it until now our team hadn't phased out players like Lampard, Gerrard, Cole, Ferdinand, Defoe.... Why were they even still in contention and why did some even go, HOW DID IT TAKE SO LONG TO REALISE LAMPARD AND GERRARD CAN'T PLAY TOGETHER, STOP TRYING TO MAKE IT WORK.... I digress a little, as it's always annoyed me a lot....

The main reason I started this, the "golden generation" let us down but the new crop looks great... I don't think we'll progress hugely and become a powerhouse, all I'm saying is this looks like a decent crop, not expecting them all to make it either....

GK: Butland,
RB: Clyne, Jenkinson
CB: Stones, Chambers, Caulker, Lascelles, Dier
LB: Shaw
CM: Ward-Prowse, Wilshere
Wingers/Attacking Midfield: Barkley, Morrison, Sterling, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Zaha, Ince
Strikers: Berahino, Ings, Kane, Wickham

Now near 50% of these I don't expect to make it but it looks promising, right? I'm sure if you gathered some players who are closer to 26 and they were the squad of a EPL side, they'd be challenging for Europa league spot at the minimum.

The future ain't all doom and gloom kids....

Look at it, though. One of these 'young players' lists would have consisted of Ferdinand, Owen, Ashley Cole, Gerrard, Terry and Lampard around 10 years ago.

Big difference there.

Jack Butland really isn't very good

Neither are Zaha, Kane, Wickham, Jenkinson or Caulker IMO. Plus Danny Ings has been in the top flight about 5 minutes and Ravel Morrison won't make it IMO, on account of being a loon.

Honestly, looking at that list would fill me with dread rather than hope as an England fan.

...picking a bunch of promising youngsters is not necessarily the thing to do, its more about thinking outside the box and bringing in players who can do a job in specific positions. They might not be the best players, but within the right team structure they are the most effective. Brian Clough won 2 European Cups with a number of journeyman players and Ramsey included Nobby Stiles in a side that won a world cup. I'm afraid we've had players recently lauded for winning 100 caps who should've been replaced by others because their records were ineffective.

Stones and chambers will both be better players than jags and cahill
Dunno about better than Cahill. I quite like him. And Stones needs to learn a bit of nous, which Jags used to have in abundance, if he is to be a really top defender. That and to put on about 20 pounds.

The Daily Mail write these type of things and most of them they predict to be sound instead turn out dump.

Its an England thing, they're rubbish at togger but think they're boss. One powers the other. Long may it continue.

I don't think anyone thinks England are good anymore, not even the Daily Mail.

his body strength always seems fine to me, he will get bigger as he grows into his body, perhaps that was too much of a definate statement, but they both have more natural talent and if they develop as they should will go on to be more rounded players and far more suited to international football.

As natural talents then yeah I agree, but there's quite a lot to like about Cahill. He's a very good defender and everything he does he does pretty well. Chambers looks a frighteningly good prospect to me though, can't really see any weakness to his game so far.
