Naive.
How naive are England fans?
Fixed that for you.

The spanish certainly do.
By and large, in any sport, if a group of under achievers suddenly start world beating, there's something suspicious about it.
If the same improvements that happened to british cycling happen to british football, I'll assume that 'the talented youngsters they're spotting and getting the best out of them' are pharmicists.
Widely believed that the French '98 team were at it, as have the Germans for quite a while. A number of Dutch players failed tests in the 90's, as of course did Guardiola, and Serie A had a number of failed tests from that period, with a number of accusations around the Juve team of the time.
With all of the money at stake in the Premier League, would I bet my house on it not happening here too? Not on your nelly.
I doubt it's at endemic levels however...
Certainly seems to be the case.True...
And players, too. I think they believe their own hype at times.

England’s main problem at the World Cup was at the back of midfield. As Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa in January showed, playing Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson together there doesn’t offer sufficient protection to the back four. There were other reasons England failed in Brazil, but that basic structural issue was the main reason England lost games against Italy and Uruguay in which they had more possession and more chances.

That’s not to say Wilshere can’t learn the role – and it’s not as though there are huge numbers of alternatives. The only player to figure in the top-10 tackles per game, interceptions per game and passing accuracy (for English players) in the Premier League last season was Gareth Barry. If you prioritise ball-winning, Mark Noble, Tom Huddlestone and Lee Cattermole score highly. Wilshere is more eye-catching than either of the last three (assuming Barry’s time has gone).
Agree but most "analysis" I've read seems to have focused on the back line errors rather than the porous midfield.I have been saying this all summer. Its so obvious.
Gerrard is a box to box midfielder, 16 goals & 18 assist last season says all you need to know about his position.
Henderson is also a box to box player.
Liverpool last season - Gerrard & Henderson Conceeded 52 goal
England in the world cup - Gerrard & Henderson..........any coincidence.

At least Rodgers realised that playing Gerrard in a two man midfield was too vulnerable and made attempts to change the formation to provide better security using either a midfield diamond or a 433. Unfortunately Roy never seemed to even think it was a problem.
Wonder if we would have had better luck in Brazil with the same players (Gerrard/Henderson etc) but in the formation we used against Switzerland.
