You can basically divide tournaments in my lifetime into ones the english had a chance of winning and didn't and ones in which england had no chance of winning and still didn't.

2010 was very much the latter.

Still think it's criminal that England didn't win Euro 96. Denmark won in 92 when Sweden hosted and had a much harder group and no easy knockout games. We had a very good squad and Shearer in his prime.

Reckon 2004 was our best chance in recent tournaments. Pretty strong squad then and a pretty open tournament with no outstanding team.
