How many times have you seen Everton live?

That tar didn't keep them out, especially on one large gate, the fans got loads of papers and put them all over the tar and climbed up over the lot, that was the first year they sold the FA Cup final programme outside of London, I bought that night
and got Johnny Carey's autograph on the front page of it. Jojnny was manager of Blackburn Rovers at the time and if Everton would have lost one drew that game then Blackburn would have gone up instead of us.What a great night that was,
I went to Exchange St. Station around three o'clock that afternoon, the place was crowded with Everton fans, you couldn't
move for them, singing and chanting, we never stopped singing until about one o'clock the next morning, not a just a great victory and Everton coming up but Liverpool were relegated that same season, Oh Happy Days, and Liverpool would remain in the second division for the next EIGHT YEARS, wish I could go back to that night for just a few minutes, a fabulous time.
Brill.

I'm gonner bore you with my love for Everton, I wouldn't eat a red penguin biscuit, I wouldn't wear anything red, family still give me stick at get togethers. I used to live in Knowsley when I was a kid, I'd get the 92 bus in the Summer holidays, the bus came up through Rice Lane to
County Road, round the bend past Walton church, then 2 more bus stops to this massive school playground on the left, you didn't need to
look up, as you could clearly see the four Tower Floodlights and the Gwladys Street roof, by this time I was close to peeing myself with excitement (Just seeing the ground). 2 more stops and I was at Spellow Lane, I walked up to the ground, I walked round anti-clockwise
saw some kids playing Centre & in, against the big blue doors in Bullens Road, joined in for a few minutes, until I found out that they were reds.
I walked round to the main entrance and watched people toing & froing, I can remember one face, a very smart Graham Williams, I don't
know if he was signing on or off or getting treatment. I spent a few days of those hols just being by the ground. My Dad used to take me into Town for new clobber, I can always remember getting the No.19 bus from the I.C.I. (Yorkshire Imperial Metals) We went upstairs on
the right, down the Lancs past the Crown, straight though Queens Drive, under Walton Bridge, up the hill, you had to wait til you got to Gwladys Street before you could see the palace, as we went past Walton motors towards the now Dixie memorial, my Dad stood up and said Raise your hats to a great ground and a great team. Nobody did, a couple of women smiled, in sympathy I think, I was very embarrassed. My Dad was from London and a Spurs supporter. I just wish that he could embarrass me once more...
That route to the match brings back some memories.

Brilliant post! I've been going regularly since 73/74. Some seasons only a handful of games, but many others & currently with ST. Got to be 1000 games give or take including cup games, aways. Only Seen us at Wembley 5 times in all them years. Only seen us win there once! and that was a charity shield which we missed most of. Mind you, it's only about 43 years, so plenty of time yet.

Great thread. Only go a few times a season now to due to increased travelling distance but when I walked in there last Saturday it was a thing of beauty and a sight to behold. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
Not totally related to yours, but the last home league game I attended was also the Boro match.
The buzz when I reach L4 is an aphrodisiac to me. To enter the ground is, well, best I stop there.
Thing is, I didn't enter the ground for that one, unlike yourself.

A couple of weeks ago I posted on this wall that I have been a match going junkie since 1954. I also stated that I thought I was a jinx. I don't know if paranoia has a firm grip of me, but I think I had better go incognito in future in case I am spotted.
Truth is, my wife and I took two weeks holiday up by John o' Groats, but I promised myself I was going to the game.
Just after midnight I set off on the 550 mile drive. I made good time, had a snack, and made it home in just over nine hours.
Feeling good, I checked on GOT to catch up with ant latest news, as there was not a good signal where we stayed.
Fell asleep.
Woke up, missed the match (screams were heard). Check up on GOT again and find it is a late kick off. Huzzah.

Fire up the wheels and burn rubber. Next stop........Dame Goodison.
All tiredness evaporated. Just like my hopes as I had left my season ticket in a remote northerly part of Scotland.
So, I hung around Stanley Park for somewhere to go. Then a muffled cheer. Jeez, we are a goal down, but I still hang around until half time waiting for a roar for the equaliser. Which never came.

Back to the car and back on the M ways.
A further 550 miles, but this time taking an hour and a half longer I reached my destination. Turned off the ignition, picked my coat out of the boot, and there looking up at me was my season ticket. (maybe it's not paranoia, maybe it's senility).
AAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!

So there we have it. 1100 mile round trip, twenty and a half hours driving, and we only won because I did one when we were a goal down. Is it me? I do wonder. Would we have won had I remained/actually been in the ground? The answer of course, is, yes. I do not have any influence over matters, because if I did, TRS would be a thing of memory.

Mind you, I was walking like Groucho, the Marx brother and not our mod; and resembled Rob Zombie, but without needing any make up. But the fact is, Everton won, so that was the most important thing, and the sole reason for the journey.
The effort was more than worthwhile, and yes, I will be there for the Palace game, because as you stated, the adrenalin rush when you see the ground makes rocket fuel seem like tepid milk.

How good was last Sunday ? A great day fore sure.
been to see tha Blues about a dozen times, mostly at GP. Saw the the 1985 FA Cup Final at Wembley, also went to GP to see us win the league against QPR. I try to get a game or two in when I visit the old dart, last game was 2015 against Chelsea, a truly memerable performance.
Going back again next year, hopefully I can get a ticket.
