How Far Away is Browning From Stepping Up When Stones Leaves?

Although Browning looked good in pre-season I don't think he's ready to be a PL centreback just yet. At u21 level his strengths and weaknesses are pretty clear: excellent athlete who is both quick and strong; comfortable on the ball. However, his positional sense and general awareness aren't up to the required level yet, something his physical attributes compensate for at youth level but that would be exposed against top forwards.

A loan at a Championship side makes most sense for him.

Galloway looks like a better prospect to me, inasmuch as he has a similar quality of confidence we saw when Stones first came into the team. Struggled against Navas at times last week but I think it will be a character building experience.

Stones is a decent centre-half and can defend as well as most in terms of getting in tackles and blocks, but for me he also contributes to the slow forward play because of his seeming need to try to impress every time the ball is at his feet. Notice both City centre halves cleared their lines immediately mainly in a controlled manner to instantly set-up the forward play. If Browning can defend as well as Stones then as has been said before I don't think we would miss the finesse.

You could put that down to the fact he isn't a natural left back.I agree that Browning would benefit from a loan, but that might be a luxury we can't afford at this point.

I think he'll look towards Holgate and Galloway, doesn't bode well for Browning for me, infact, why didn't they send him on loan to a Championship side?

This is a problem we have mainly because our advanced players run forward to the oppositions defenders whereas City players drop off into space to collect and with Evertons defensive play we let them drop off. Noticed this over the last season where we seem to defend narrowly and protect our box which allows the opposition to have space out wide and plenty of space in front of our defence. This gives them time to think and play a dangerous pass.

Think both Browning and Galloway would be targeted as the weak points by every team we play (Man city did at weekend and it was brutal to see)

i would give them another year or two at least before they are full time first team.

Unfair to judge at LB. Imagine if that's all we recalled about Coleman? Galloway was targeted far more than Browning, but browning has no left foot what so ever. I have no idea, well a small idea, why Bobby didn't put Barry LB against City.
