How did you become an Evertonian?

Ok. But to say "not the best history" is still inaccurate in my view.

9 titles, 5 FA Cups and one European trophy is hardly 'not the best history' is it? That's before you take into account Dixie Dean and non-trophy history.

More like 'one of the best' histories.

Fair enough. I'll admit I could've chosen the wording a bit better.

sorry, long, and going to reveal a deep, dark secret.

i honestly dodged a bullet.

grew up in Massachusetts before moving to Arizona in the mid-80s. grew up a fan of all the local teams - Bruins, Pats, Celtics, and, of course, the Red Sox. liked football, but didn't really follow anything but the World Cup's from 1990 on. Played some Fifa (Celtic or Leeds back when they had Viduka) on whatever console was it at the time.

Red Sox owner John Henry bought the rs. I could very well have jumped on that (viking) ship... but still no real presence in the US so nothing. by the time matches were being aired in the US on "regular" channels, the Sox had sacked their manager Tito Francona after he erased an 86 year drought winning two World Series in four years. Not content to say "thanks for your service but it's time for a new direction" they dragged his name through the mud to the point he wasn't even going to show up a year latter at the 100th Anniversary of Fenway Park. He did, and drew the loudest cheers of all from the Fenway Faithful.

So when the Prem came to tv, i certainly could not support an organization run by such (premature bad word filter self-applied), so did some research. Couldn't jump on Sky Four or Citeh, so scratched them right away. Went through what was left and Everton were the most appealing by a longshot.

Great history, with fantastic players and titles. Historic ground (see Fenway Park above). Team that "punched above it's weight" or "brings a knife to a gun fight" had a lot of appeal to me... Factor in a direction connection with the US of A and the fact i like blue, i started following.

Lurked here for a while and that pretty much sealed it. Seemed a bunch of raving whums and misfits... but one that seemed where i belong. Caught a terminal case of the Blue Flu Roberto's first season.

Chelsea at Goodison, with Naisy, the object of much derision on the match thread, popped in the winner. Never forget the rush of that day when the final whistle blew. Banged/punched my desk so hard in celebration i bruised multiple knuckles.

side note, should @Yid4life visit this thread, Spurs were on my "let's do more research" short list and one of my friends shook out that way. if @Garrick ever sees anyone in a Spurs kit around the greater Milwaukee area, it's either my friend or his daughter.

I'm from Fife, in the East of Scotland and whenever I tell people I'm an Evertonian I always get puzzled/surprised looks. Whilst I still support my local team up here, (East Fife FC) who happen to play in the lowest division in Scottish football and are absolutely poo, I've always enjoyed watching MOTD while I was growing up and for some reason Everton were the one club that just hooked me and I've supported the club ever since. Former Everton player, Gary Naysmith is now the East Fife player/manager.

Hahhahaha!

I used to play beer pong in college, as well as play FIFA (see post above). Used Scotland in international matches with my beer pong teammate.... so when we played Beer Pong they started calling us the Scots, I was McAlister, he was MacCoist. Someone even brought back one of those small desktop flags from a visit to Glasgow, so we'd that we put on the table during our matches. We were undefeatable. If I was a drunken mess, he pulled out victory and vice-versa.

SO what does that have to do with East Fife?

I went to a Champs Sports in Tucson, around 1997 and saw a kit, Le Coq, with a small Scottish Flag on the crest. Bought it and wore it proudly on Pong night.

The kit:

Harry Catterick's 62/63 team did it for me as a fickle 11 year old who'd vaguely flirted with other teams. There were stories about this mystical player " The Golden Vision" , and we were the best team in the land, how could you not support them.
Well, just confirms things. I did the " Which Everton great are you" thingy on OS and it came up with :
"You are the Golden Vision!"
