Firstly, let's get one thing straight, I hate Liverpool Football Club and everything they and their supporters stand for. I think the depth of my hatred stems from the years of growing up in 1970's and early 1980's school playgrounds in Liverpool when they won everything in sight and clearly had the finest club side on the planet. Evertonians were routinely piss-ripped but the 25% or so of us that didn't follow the glory-hunter crowd of the era stood our ground and dug in even deeper. I think those experiences help to shape your passion to an even greater extent and the blue blood runs even deeper than you sometimes realise.
Yes I destest them, always have, always will. Emlyn Hughes and his 'Everton are tragic' squeaky voiced tirade, Big Nose Rush tormenting us, Bob Paisley, Bill Shankley and so on. As much as I hated these people, I respected them too. They all made me cry more than once one way or another but the LFC men of that era were football men who cared about the game and how their club was perceived. Their supporters were never victims, just got on with giving everything to their club like any supporters but they would do it with humour, dignity and knowledge.
Compare that era to this. In recent history you've had people like Benitez openly disrespecting Everton. Steven Gerard, an absolute dog of a man held up with almost saint-like status at their hovel and by the media of the world. Their supporters will never, ever take responsibility for anything their mercenary players do in their name. Everything is fair game to them. They can't see (or choose not to see) what Suarez did wrong yesterday and instead deflect the blame towards Rodwell or a small group of fans throwing plastic bottles and programmes at players taunting them following goals. At this point I should point out that I think Dalglish is a decent man and conducted himself with dignity and humility after the game yesterday. The players and fans though clearly don't want to follow his example.
They call us bitter yet are the bitterest fans in the world as they gaze enviously in the direction of Old Trafford. They were responsible for one of the worst instances of hooliganism in the history of world football at Heysel, ruined a possible spell of European domination for the finest Everton side in generations and far from apologising to Everton and the other English clubs involved, insist to this day that 'it was Chelsea fans.'
They really are scum.
With absolute cast iron honesty and certainly I'm more than happy to proclaim that with our class and culture, as a club and as a group of supporters, I wouldn't swap a single day of the ups and downs of being a blue for a year of cancerous bile across the park.
You'll do well to remember the most famous quote from one-club-man Brian Labone:
"One Evertonian is worth twenty Liverpudlians."
