in memoriam - 1961-2023
In 50 years (1970-2019) during which time, barring a short period of glory in the mid 1980s, we've not set the world alight we have

Won the FA Cup twice

Been defeated 48 times

Of those 48 losses SEVENTEEN have come against lower league opposition

No less than TEN of those seventeen we had home advantage (losing seven and a further three in replays)

Amongst those defeats we can recall such abject performances as:

Millwall home 0-2
Fulham home 1-2
Port Vale away replay 1-2
Bradford home 2-3
TRANMERE home 0-3
SHREWSBURY away 1-2
OLDHAM home 0-1
Reading home 0-1
Millwall away 2-3

And, of course, other great bottle jobs like Wigan in 2013

I will buy someone a pint if they can find proof of another top flight side that loses to lower league opposition with such regularity. And, yes, the club should be putting a board up to remind their playing staff just what they should be aiming to do which is to not add their names to the Everton FA Cup Hall of Shame.

To be fair Dan, regarding finding a “top flight side that loses to lower league opposition with such regularity”, we are at a distinct disadvantage to clubs like Leicester, Hammers, Barcodes etc., even Chelsea and Manchester City, in that all teams bar us and four others have been yo yo teams throughout most of that half century ergo they would not have had as many chances to “outdo” our dismal record :(

To be fair, The RS have a pretty bad record too in recent times losing to lower League teams.

January 1993: Liverpool 0 Bolton Wanderers 2 (third-round replay)
January 1994: Liverpool 0 Bristol City 1 (third-round replay)
January 2000: Liverpool 0 Blackburn Rovers 1 (fourth round)
February 2002: Liverpool 0 Crystal Palace 2 (fourth round)
January 2005: Burnley 1 Liverpool 0 (third round)
February 2008: Liverpool 1 Barnsley 2 (fifth round)
January 2010: Liverpool 1 Reading 2 (third-round replay)
January 2013: Oldham Athletic 3 Liverpool 2 (third round)
January 2017: Liverpool 1 Wolves 2 third round)
