How can the transfer window be improved?

Khalekan

Player Valuation: £80m
First up I have to say that, in principle, I am a fan of the transfer window.

But like every other bugger round these parts, I am just weary after six weeks of will he or won't he so Tuesday 6 p.m. cannot come around quick enough and since the news of the transfer request broke on Tuesday evening I have thought of little else and have spent way too much time glued to GOT.

(yes, I am that sad :()

But come around it will and we can put the Stones saga on the back burner for a while and start the season proper after the international break.

Without a transfer window, like it used to be not so long ago, this speculation and bidding and transfer requesting would just run on and on and on and on.

So yay to a transfer window, say I.

But by Jove sommat needs to be done about it.

It just hangs over the first three or four weeks of a new season like a dark raincloud, ready to wash your optimism away in one thunderous storm.....like the sagas leading up to the Rooney and Lescott deals.

At present, the window remains open until all the major leagues are up and running.

This does not suit us here in England because our season starts earlier than La Liga and Serie A.

I think we start earlier than the Bundesliga as well.

So what if they reversed it?

Instead of it closing a week or so after the last big league kicks off, why not close it a week before the first of the big leagues opens?

This seaon for instance, it would have closed on Monday August 3rd.

Then everybody all across Europe could sit back and enjoy the start of the season knowing all the drama, the thrills and the stress would be enacted on the field....not in the metaphorical smoke filled back room of an agent's office.

Banning all who regularly post in the transfer window thread, unless it is to mock or prod into a fume, when the window SLAMS shut.

That would be superb.

Been banging on about this for ages Khal and yes there is no doubt the window needs to be closed before the season starts.

But it is a UEFA rule I think so that may prove difficult to enforce.

Don't know if would be possible, but maybe it could be closed by the FA for transfers between clubs of the Association, and kept open for transfers between clubs of different associations affiliated to UEFA.

That might at least limit the problem, although no doubt some ruling exists which would not permit it. :(

Something needs to be done anyway, because as our manager says, the present position should not be allowed to continue.

Personally I think the transfer window being open a month into the season is perfect.

Gives the club the opportunity to strengthen after seeing their players in real games. Maybe that young player you were counting on just isn't cutting it yet...or maybe that veteran you banked on getting a couple more years out of simply isn't up for it.

I don't know...everyone is in the same boat.

Just wish the British media didn't behave like drama queens to sell papers. Just report the effing news.

We need more sensationalism added to it. 10% more sensationalism I say.

I don't follow the game abroad beyond watching the odd big game from Spain or Italy but I wonder is the transfer window at big a distraction on the continent as it is here?

I know they always had transfer windows over there when I was younger so they are well used to it.

But is the problem exacerbated in England because of the Sky loot sloshing around and boys like Redknapp just living to spend loads if it twice per year?

Has to be doesn't it ? The worst part of it is that total they keep coming out with about how much money was spent overall.

It's like Red Nose Day and Children In Need combined for professional footballers ffs.
