Houston Dynamo sign Giles Barnes...any insight?

My hometown club signed Englishman Giles Barnes on a free today, I don't know much about him but he's played several seasons in England with Derby County and a few other clubs and had a handful of appearances for the England U19s. Seems like he's had some injury problems but he looks to have been pretty healthy the past two seasons with appearances for West Brom and Doncaster.

Anyone seen him play or have any other background knowledge on him? Just curious what we're getting.

He was very highly rated a few years ago like, pacey little winger with a decent shot on him. I can't tell you too much other than that like. Injuries have taken their toll though, as you say, so he might not have that same pace as before.

When Paul jewell took over at derby I'm told he was really surprised by Barnes as he'd heard the rumours he was great and when he saw him in training he was actually below average . I think a classic example of hype being much much greater than actual ability

Interesting, thanks guys. I'm intrigued to see how he does, the team doesn't have any glaring needs so we'll see how he can fill in.
