This country doesn't require a high speed rail system.

It's not big enough. We cope fine as is. Spend the cash on health and education.

Expanding the London footprint is in the ruling elites interest, get everyone else to pay for it by trying to fool them its in to get them connected - thats why the east west Leeds Manchester tie up has been bolted on (HS3) to sweeten the deal. I'm guessing the housing that extra 15 minutes out of London on the current rail service has been snapped up and the bungs are flying to get preferred bidder status on brown belt former industrial land for the developers that'll "rescue the housing crisis". It's a massive con, tree's don't vote, and provoking the greens with such a move keeps them looking like tree hugging hippies and so alienates them as potential protest votes.

Barking up the wrong tree? Root of the problem? Leaf it out lids.
