Has this been dreamed up because it's in the news today? Government trying to standardise taxing online in accord with online casinos and similar?
No just wanted an amicable discussion about it’s merits as a sport and industry friend.

I don’t mind it myself but have seen others questioning whether it’s humane or ethical as it feeds gambling.

I'm not sure multimillionaire horse owners are going to be suffering from a 5% change on online gambling alteration. @Eggs
Something on the news earlier, there is horse racing in the UK every day of the year except for 3 days.
It has the most spectators of any sport* after football.
I can understand the animal rights militia re use of the whip and the number of horses needing euthanising due to terrible injury.
Also...

Did anyone ever do the pepsi challenge with those findus lasagnas, beef vs horse? It's not as though they were passing off squirrel as rabbit is it.

….i find discussion with posters who don’t like the sport a bit pointless, nobody will change their opinion whether you’re for it or against.

He could have led with their being more medicine in competitive horses now than the entire pharmacy at the nearest hospital.
The tax change only covers online, so they'll still make millions at the turnstiles and bars and race ground bookies all the same. Seems a bit manufactured this outrage.
Those that can make a living out of owning and training horses and auctioning them off probably aren't shy of a few quid. I don't believe for one second the (stable)staff see a penny of the online revenue generated.
ITV could do with a dedicated channel for their racing coverage, they bounce it between 1 and 4 and it can annoy.

Personally never had any interest in it, I can see why people enjoy it but the gambling side isn't for me, if banning it because of gambling, then people will still bet on other things, ban it because it's cruel? I don't know if it is, maybe the horses enjoy it, without the racing there isn't much call for horses as pets or for industry
