To make it clear it was SFX college not SFX school .SFX school wasn't worth a carrot ,not like The Friary now
they were a proper school with great teams.!!!!!!!!!!

.....yep, SFX College in Woolton. There was SFX Bi-Lat on Shaw St. I was born and raised around there. Think the Friary was a bit further along, past Everton Brow and maybe on Netherfield Rd. I might be getting mixed up but the Friary I'm thinking of was a little old infant/junior school.

Yes you are right ,the Friary school was the infants you are talking about and the Parish was known as The Friary.

The school at the top of Everton Brow and Netherfield Road was called Netherfield Road R.C.but was known mostly
as The Friary. The parish church in Fox Street was called St. Mary of the Angels but was also known as The Friary
because all the priests were Franciscans. Sorry about the history lesson.

Granted we aren't talking the same area like, but my mate was a very good goalkeeper, reflexes of a cat. Couldn't be arsed diving or catching the ball so he always used to just punch it over the bar. That laziness stopped him from going anywhere with it, if he was arsed he could have done age group rep teams and the like for NZ and the regions but he could never be bothered. Out on the field it was completely different though. I think the lack of glamour as a goalkeeper drove him away from the position. That and your mistakes being amplified x100 compared to elsewhere on the pitch and the propensity to be blamed when you conceded.
Me and some of my other mates just despair at the waste of his talent though.

.....don't apologise, Dave. Real Everton country with our tower over the road. Haven't been down there for a few years but remember playing footy once or twice in the Friary schoolyard 50 years or so ago. Most of my RC mates went to SFX junior school just behind Shaw St.

Thanks

I meant to say thanks for your response , got cut off .I still drink with a lot of SFX lads ,all genuine people, that's
why first letter was a bit of banter , we always argue which school was the best .

The reason why The Friary (Netherfield Road R.C.) was at the top of Everton Brow was that dirty no good Hitler
bombed our school in Duoro Street ,just off Fox Street and so we were moved to the top of the Brow, very happy
days there.
