My mate has an American akita. It's the biggest dog I've ever seen in my life. God help any burglar that comes face to face with one. Never mind two!! They're fiercely territorial too aren't they? Great guard dogs..
very territorial dogs. the American one is a rescue and he does have his moments, but he's a great dog.

as for cctv, I believe the best ones have the hard drive stored off site. but they come with subscriptions

My old man has a Chinese mate, who owns a load of chippies and frequently has large amounts of money in his house.

He had a female Bulldog, that was trained to let people in, but not to let them out, unless he says a word in Mandarin.

The Bulldog was gorgeous, friendly, wanted to play all the time and gave no clue as to what would happen if the Chinese fella didn’t say the magic word on the way out.

One night the inevitable happened, someone broke in, after the cash

They forced the kitchen door open and were obviously met with a friendly, playful Bulldog.

The fella and his family were woken up, by a terrible screaming and an almighty crash.

Upon legging it downstairs, he found the dog covered in blood in the kitchen, the kitchen door open and a “ man sized “ hole in the big kitchen window, which was also covered in blood.

There was no sign of the burglar, but whoever it was must’ve been very badly savaged, which must’ve been made worse when he jumped through the window.

No police involvement, instead he handed it over to some friendly Chinese gangsters, who quickly found out who it was and dealt with in the manner in which they normally deal with people who cross them !!!

Need a new alarm system at home. Is it worth getting cctv?

I've been quoted £500+ for 2 vibration sensors, Outside siren, 3 x movement sensors, keypad and a door sensor. Seems like a good price to be fair, mobile app to control it all etc.

But I'm wondering given we're updating it all, whether it's worth adding CCTV as well? For 2 outside good quality cameras (capable of zooming in to see reg plates or faces) and the recorder/app etc. it's another £500.

I've been struggling to get a decent quote to be fair bar the above, most systems appear to come with monthly maintenance charges which I was hoping to avoid if possible.

Anyone got any advice, or experience with similar?
Unless its high res etc. Probably not worth it. But as far as I know the more higher res, IR, colour etc you have it eats up storage.
Unless the yob is daft enough to look up at the camera...and plenty are, a hoodie and a bent head cover faces well.
I'm not an expert though, it's all just opinion

My son a pc engineer paid around £300 for the CTV gear took him a day 4k quality picture.....stopped one of our cars getting the wing mirror ripped off repeatedly......plus caught the binmen doing something naughty which I dropped the coverage in to the Manager ........so yes they are a deterrent.......better than a house alarm Imo
Even a great photo at night time - don't forget to display that you have a camera .......at eye level height.....
My refuge collection has also improved immensely :D

Excellent choice, especially if your invasion ends up being of a more extra-dimensional kind.
I have a machete that I bought in Uganda. It's as blunt as a bus but there's no way anyone is coming closer to me when I'm standing at the top of the stairs swinging it around like a nut case and screaming like a banshee.

sadly cctv or not, if you've got something some scummy b'std wants, they'll find a way to get it. I think cctv may help to get you a prosecution but I dont think it's a deterrent to a determined thief. it may reduce your chances of falling victim to opportunistic crime but I wouldn't expect more than that from it
