Anyone have a home gym?

Looking at setting one up in my garage, but I’m unsure on the correct flooring/equipment/anything else I might need.

Need to start sorting out my mental/physical health after all of this lockdown and Covid crap!

Have you got the equipment already? If not then good luck as it's impossible to buy (reasonably priced) stuff currently!!

But.. early in first lockdown I managed to buy a rowing machine, weight bench and about 100kg of dumbbell weights.. been working out since at home. I'll never go back to the gym I don't think...

Only got a few bits like a kettlebell, cross trainer, exercise bike, few weights and a skipping rope right now

Yeah I’ve noticed that, gonna have to look at getting some stuff second hand as it’s hard to get atm

For flooring you can buy the interlocking foam mats. I had these in my home gym and work well to protect the floor when you drop the weights. Cheap enough and look better than the bare concrete.
Nice one. Have seen the foam and was going to go with it but was worried it wouldn’t hold up if weights were dropped on it. Was either foam or rubber- but haven’t checked the price on that

All you need is a power rack and a barbell set... Functional and efficient. For beginner programs, look at 5x5 Stonglifts, or Starting Strength.

Just the other day, I was suggesting this to a mate at work... then I looked at current prices...

A 100g barbell set with weights was about £425... and all out of stock. I paid a third of this price, just a few years ago.

Be patient... prices will come down.

I expect the rubber to be a bit more hard wearing and expensive because of that. But saying that the foam holds up well tbh and for less than £50 you could probably cover all the area you need. You can always review and upgrade later on.

Lots a good advice here

The interlocking floor mats are awesome. They protect the floor and also let u do a lot of stuff on the floor not needing a gym mat.

For lifting

A power rack cage
Plates
A bench
Dumbbells

Is really all you need. I also have a cable machine but those get a bit pricey.

For cardio

Rowing machine is great and the bikes if you can get one (peloton or Notdictrack)
