Been thinking of this for a while. Hammered home by the burglary thread.

Anyone have a system? Any recommendations?

Looking at one like this...

You get what you pay for mate.

The resolution needs to be very good, if its not, any recordings you want to print off / watch are just blurry and renders the whole thing pointless.

You need one that has clear vision in darkness, a lot don't or are badly affected by lights, causing a halo effect.

This is what makes the good ones good and expensive.

What a burglar fears most of all is a very big dog !

I'd recommend an alarm system.

It's noisy; it detects movement. It calls the police. Also you get a discount on your insurance.

Yeah, got an alarm. Just another deterrent..

I think your sorted then mate. As long as they know there is an alarm there; they'll surely think twice about it.

Also sometimes it's dangerous to go overboard with security measures. When your house is a fortress, and if they must have something you have, they can resort to other tactics like tiger-kidnapings et al. Also lots of deterrents create the impression that there is lots to gain.

True story.

My dad had a Chinese mate, who kept large amounts of money in his house from his chippy over the weekend.

He had a gorgeous female bulldog, who was the friendliest thing in the world.

However she was trained to only let people out of the house when he said a Mandarin word.

She'd lie across the front door in the hall, waiting to be given the nod to let you out if you were in the house.

One Sunday night a burglar broke in, obviously after the takings. When my dads mate came downstairs to see what the noise was, he found a person shaped hole in the kitchen window and bits of burglar all over the kitchen lol

I'd be quite interested in someone trying to screw my place. My dog is really confident but placid normally but he does seem to be able to detect wrong uns and he goes proper mental. He's only done it twice but both times the fellas he's tried to eat were proper gobsh1tes.

I've got a dog and this.....

If you're going to get cameras, get IP ones, not the coax cable ones. Higher quality generally, as easy to install, generally more expandable.

You can also do what New Yorkers do and put bars on your windows and cages on your doors
