Speaking to a Stoke City fan at work I recalled one of my first ever away games watching Everton - It was 8th September 1979 at the Victoria Ground in Stoke. Everton won 3-2 and the atmosphere was amazing. I remember the result but not too much about the game but looking at the result on worldfootball.net The scoring went thus:

0 : 1 Andy King 45.

0 : 2 John Bailey 45.

1 : 2 Brendan O'Callaghan 45.

2 : 2 Denis Smith 45.

2 : 3 Samuel Irvine 75. / own goal

Unfortunately it doesn’t give the Half Time score as I was wondering whether the goals were either side of Half Time. Seems strange that 4 goals scored on 45 minutes but I suppose in the olden days they never bothered timing extra time in first half like they do now – 45+2 and all that. Does anyone know the Half Time score or have any recollection of the match or was actually at the game? One thing I remember was a lot of missiles being hurled towards the Everton fans on the walk back to the station and police videoing the proceedings. I suppose it was still in the era of ‘the bad old days’ of hooligans plus the Stoke fans pretty displeased with being beaten on their home ground.

Cheers for that - looks like worldfootball.net score times are completely out! I'll check the Everton Results first next time! Happy Days those were - think we won the same season away at Derby 3-2 at the Old Baseball Ground as that was one of my other Away games that season. On the way home on the train (I lived in Chester) we pulled into Stoke who were also playing at home and a friend of ours got on with his Stoke Scarf only to be verbally taunted by the Everton fans but it was all good natured and everyone calmed down once the train got going.
