That whole deal on the Kursk was a bad bad deal.

Sad but just showed the incompetence of the Russian authorities.

Speaking of subs - I didn't realise the first one built was designed by an Irishman who was funded first by the Fenian Brotherhood and who then took the Yankee Dollar to complete the project. John Holland his name was...which led to the Holland Class sub.

Ok, at ease me hearties.

Fountain of knowledger Dave! Nice 1

The first modern submarine Davek ;) But yes, Holland built the original USS Holland SS-1 back at the turn of the century.

For the first sub to be used in combat was the Turtle, used to try and attach explosives to the hull of British warships (most notably the HMS Eagle) in New York Harbor. Not very successful as it was a single man contraption, powered by that single man. Then in the civil war, the Confederates built the CSS Hunley, which kept sinking everytime they attacked a ship, killing the crew. This continued until they attacked and sank the USS Housatonic which finally proved the submarines worth in combat.

i couldnt manage in sub, or in tank, horible scenario...somekind of a fobia

My submarine was 565 feet long, that is almost 2 football fields long, and displaced 16,500 tons of water surfaced and 18,000 tons submerged.

Mind you we carried 24 nuclear missiles. And had a nuke reactor that produced enough steam to drive our turbines to a shaft horse power rating of around 65,000.

And for those that care, I can waffle on about submarines, in all aspects of operation and use to tactics and history ALL DAY LONG!!!!

:)
