They are. I got one on holiday in Rhodes a few years ago and had to go to a chemist to ask for some cream for it. I was told I needed to wait until the pharmacist could speak to me. The shop was packed out and really noisy. After a while the pharmacist came out, got everyone to quieten down and then shouted "Who is the Englishman with herpes?".
