Oh god, this is spectacular.

Drogas Light from Lupe Fiasco wasn't recieved well but I quite like it. Then again, I am a big Lupe fan but it's got some good music on there - Promise, Jump, Pick up the Phone.

Gang Signs and Prayers from Stormzy - including it in here - is boss.

More Life from Drake. Hahahahhaahaha. Just go away for a few months fella, please.

DAMN from Kendrick. Do we really need to talk about it? No. It's great. But no, it's not on the incredible level of TPAB but it's a fine album as a follow on. Looking forward to whatever he does next. So good how much he's come on from Section.80.

Logic's Everybody is sound. Like Lupe though, I'm a Logic fan but I like his albums because they're albums in the sense that they tell a story, especially as he complete's his trilogy. No, it's not quite The Incredible True Story but it's fine. It's worth a listen at the very least.

Not listened to Joey Bad's new album but it's on the list.

I think his new album is pretty terrible tbh, like straight in the bin bad. Feels like everyones bumming it just cause its Kendrick.

Loved his previous albums but the actual beats (lyrics aside) seem substandard relative to his previous albums, really uninspired from a musical standpoint. The piano riff in Humble for example, 3 notes, heavily quantised, repeated for the entire track, sound like its played by a robot, not a chord in sight. Vibeless.

Bare in mind I'm not some big lyrical connoisseur, I focus more on the beats/rest of the music than the vocals, to the point where if the beat is forgettable I won't care about the vocals no matter how deep/amazing the lyrics are and for me pretty much all the beats on DAMN are forgettable whereas the beats on his previous albums have always been pretty interesting. Having said that I obviously still appreciate good lyricists as well... it's just not my primary focus when listening to hip hop.

Logics album is ok, pretty hit and miss imo. Main title track is great though !

Will check out the Lupe album, quite liked a few things I've heard of his.

Oh and loved J Coles album but then I love every single thing he does... he's worked with some amazing producers on his past 2 LPs and vocally id say he's more talented than most due to being able to actually sing and write decent melodies without the need for autotune.

I was just about to tag you in here Frandmaster Flash.

Thought Joeys last one was very weak compared to all the material he first broke out with, so wasnt in a hurry to check the new one. Will give it a listen this week.

Saw Big Daddy Kane a couple weeks ago which was great. Fantastic show in a very small venue. Will see RTJ in a weeks time at Primavera and Talib Kweli in July.

Never heard of Logic....will give it a whirl!

My favourites albums of the year so far would be ATCQ and De La Souls returns.

Arr, that's enough, lock the thread.

Nah, I've heard similar criticisms of his album and with all music it's subjective. You like what you like yenno. Like your point there on lyricists, I'm completely the opposite now when I used to be like the way you are with beats. In the past, I couldn't care less about lyrics if the beat is good - especially if it's an interesting one yenno but now, I prefer the lyrics and that's Kendrick's strength.

That's why I base out on Genius all day now just reading through lyrics and looking at interpretations.

And I've gone right off Cole atm. I am a massive fan like, Christ I've seen him live about 6 times now and bought all his albums that I can on release but after the initial week, I went right off 4 Your Eyez only. Especially disappointing that he decided to release False Prophets and Everybody Dies as loose's right before his album and he left them off. They were the best songs he dropped in that period.

No doubt he'll draw me back in with what he does next.

I was just about to tag you in here Frandmaster Flash.
