Regardless of how you may feel about the Honours List, it is great to read that Trevor Hicks and Margaret Aspinall have both been recognised with CBE's for their outstanding work on behalf of the Hillsborough victims and families.

Congratulations to both.

Hmmmmm.

government trying to ease it's over-burdened conscience?

far too little, far too late.

You're not wrong.

I'll tell you a tale;

The Arl Fella went with all his 50+ yr old mates went to Rome ( yes I'm the blue sheep of the family )
Took dogs abuse from the eyetyes while the local police either did nothing or set the actual dogs on them ( the RS's )
They in self defense took some fence palings and in best Cpl. Jones style proved that they do not indeed like it up em and made their way to their seats.
FFWd to Heysal
Walked into the ground, saw them bringing the bodies out, turned around and drove home.
FFWd to Hillsborough... well to our Semi, we heard on the way back, so I went direct to My Dads house ( no mobiles then ).
Let myself in and shouted Is me Dad back yet, he didn't go he's in the front room
Why didn't you go
' Shrugged' Didn't fancy it he said
Next day we were round for Sunday tea watching the mega coverage and watched some high ranking plod in gigs and plenty of fruit salad saying blah blah, all the facts, blah blah full investigation and I said right off...which mean we're saying nowt until we go away and get our story straight.

and so it was

Unlike me and many others these people actually got off their backsides and did something and deserve anything they can get however elitist and late it is so I say fairplay to them

They deserve the Awards no matter who it is that is giving it to them, be it Royal Family or Govt. by not telling Govt to shove them as many are saying that they should they are acting with the same dignity that they have maintained throughout. They will no doubt view managing to get the Inquiry as a bigger achievement though and the recognition they get from 'their own' and to them the awards will mean nothing in comparison to when they finally get Justice.

Well deserved. I don't know her personally, but I see Margaret outside the inquest on a regular basis.
She's a remarkable woman.

Pity they were only given a low ranking award - I guess you have to be a lying politician or thieving banker or useless actor to get the higher levels. Congratulations to both of them though for some form of recognition after all these years.

Good for them. Whatever or not there accepting an award from a government who helped cover it up along with the South Yorkshire Police or if it's too little too late, they should be congratulated for their efforts for fighting for justice and for the truth about Hillsborough (A incident that should of never happened) to come out. I couldn't imagine the toll it took on them or any of the families that lost loved ones at Hillsborough fighting for the truth for 20+ years despite the attempts to make them go away (public hatchet jobs from the police, government and The Sun. Popper inquiry, Stuart-Smith inquiry, private prosecution of David Duckenfield and Bernard Murray etc).

I've liked a number of posts on this subject cos I can see both sides to accepting the award or not. Very confusing.

Well deserved and the campaigners are an inspiration just not sure behind the motivation to award them.
