I think it's appropriate to have a thread on the Hillsborough Inquests, I am sure an awful lot of new news and information is going to come to light in the coming months.

Let's keep it respectful and strictly on topic - no other "Liverpool" related content please.

Please note the following:

The inquests into the deaths of the 96 people who died as a result of the events at Hillsborough on 15 April 1989 are due to begin on 31 March 2014.

The inquests will be heard by a coroner (Lord Justice Goldring) together with a jury.

Editors, publishers and social media users should note that the inquest proceedings are currently active for the purpose of the Contempt of Court Act 1981.

The Attorney General wishes to draw attention to the risk of publishing material, including online, which could create a substantial risk that the course of justice in the inquests may be seriously impeded or prejudiced, particularly as this inquest involves a jury.

This risk could arise by commentary which may prejudge issues that witnesses may give evidence about, or matters that the jury will need to consider in reaching their verdict. The inquests could also be prejudiced by publishing details of material (whatever its source) which may not form part of the evidence at the inquest.

The Attorney General’s Office will be monitoring the coverage of these proceedings.

The biggest disgrace was that 3:15 cut off. A cut off point that was based on absolutely feck all, other than it being convenient for those that didn't want their inadequate response analysed and questioned.

I remain flabbergasted that it was allowed to be accepted as fact in the original inquests, and I would question how proficient the family's representatives were, given that they were incapable of getting such BS dismissed. But if the man in charge is corrupt, then I guess it doesn't matter who you are, you aren't going to get a fair hearing. It really is a disgrace, as corrupt as you can bloody get!

I'd like to see the full part Margaret Thatcher played in directing criticism of the police onto the fans. But absolutely no chance of that.

I don't think the police needed any direction from Thatcher, they did a pretty good job of that on their own. The cover up had started from the moment the disaster became apparent, and long before Thatcher made her way to Sheffield.

and how many times has it been looked at by other 'independent bodies' yet each time the obvious has been ignored. I can barely watch the Hillsborough programme by Jimmy McGovern as it's horribly upsetting but everything that happened in that has been proven as fact. I find it unbelievable that someone can make a film about the events while knowing all the facts yet many independent bodies and governments (not just the Tories) happily buried the facts for years.

I don't think Thatcher needed to be geographically there to commence her witchcraft. No doubt the local police started with their own BS very early on, but that would have been blown apart very soon after without some very high level direction of the investigating police force, the media, the judiciary, politicians etc to ensure the desired outcome.

A friend received a letter informing her that she had been selected for the Jury.

She's from Harrogate originally and not a football fan, and said that from my reaction to something on the news one time she started to look at it differently due to how outraged I was, as a fan of LFC's rivals she said she then thought that something must be wrong with the original verdicts or that all wasn't as she had been led to believe from the press/news, seems I had planted the seed of doubt about what had been reported in her mind.

She has 4 kids, husband works away, so not ideal for her to get called up for something that they informed her may well take 12 months (2 kids are preschool), she also said that after looking at it more since the seed of doubt was planted she doesn't think she is of a strong enough character to be able to see all of the evidence at 1st hand, she actually said to me that she thinks she'd have a breakdown if forced to do it and view the pictures and evidence. so, as far as I know she isn't on the Jury, she did have a holiday already booked as well which was 1 of the 'ways out' for want of a better term.
Many would say they would jump at the chance to hang draw and quarter those responsible, but at the end of the day if she'd broken down months into it then they'd need to start all over again.

Don't think i could do it either mate, although I'm guessing anyone from Liverpool or with strong family connections would be barred from Jury duty anyways, must be a horrid thing to have to see all that evidence first hand (hard enough hearing and seeing any of it second hand tbh) so cannot say i blame your mate in the slightest, especially as i vividly remember the events as the unfolded and the subsequent torrent of lies from the police, media and other outlets

1 of the things it said as well as the stuff they told the jurors i.e. mustn't support L'pool or Forest etc was that she hasn't to have any preconceived opinion on what had happened & upon receiving that letter she mustn't look it up online.
There was a whole host of questions/conditions attached to it all, that made us say that it would be very difficult for them to find the people in this area.
