Arteta Bounces Back

by Giulia Bould | Thursday 8 October 2009, 15:22

Mikel Arteta has amazed specialists by pushing on with his rehabilitation following knee surgery despite a 'minor blip' in his recovery.
The midfielder's long awaited return to action suffered a blow when stitches in his torn cartilage worked free last month.
However Mike Rathbone, the Blues head physio, paid Arteta a visit over in Spain this week and was thrilled with his progress.
"The stitches’ coming out was a big psychological blow for Mikel because he tried so hard to come back as soon as he possibly could.
"He was putting so many hours in every single day but there was just some bad luck" adds Rathbone, "Sometimes though that is nature's way of telling you to slow down a bit."
The good news for Everton is the Spanish star is now back working on his fitness.
"Mikel looks good now and everything is going well so let's just call what happened a minor blip," added Rathbone.
He has assured Arteta he is still on course for a return to first team action soon: "He is still on a decent schedule, he is now seven months along and it is only a minor set back.”

Every week he gets closer to a comeback.....eeeeep...getting all excited.

He probably hasn't even full started training yet, what a load of rubbish. It's still going to take him a month or so to build up his fitness and match sharpness in the reserves. Basically, he's miles away from starting games for us.

Whoever messed up his stitching should be hunted down.

I'm on it.

it sounds like he did by working too hard.

arteta out.

Surely if he's been working that hard on his fitness it won't take another 3 months to get to premiership standards!? Providing he could keep the aerobic stuff going (which I'm sure exercise bikes and the like could see to) his lungs and heart are probably at a decent level. You guys could be overly pessimistic thinking it'll take months. If he just needs stitches to heal in his knee then that indicates weeks to me.

I'm speculating, and I'm aware of that, so don't jump on me:P
I'm just pretty excited at the prospect of our midfield once he's tussling with Fellaini, Cahill and Rodwell for a starting place :D

cahill_winner is right. He will start full training once his stitches heal. Which is couple of weeks. However, whether he plays or not depend on his physical fitness, which I believe is quite good base on the fact he is working on it for so many hours daily. If his work out includes running, theres a chance early nov.

I just cannot wait to see him in the middle again taking the p*ss.

He is just boss isn't he our Tets?

We'll all be delighted once he's back in blue. He doesn't need to tussle for a starting place - it's his to reclaim when he's ready.

I'd say middle of November for Arteta to play again. Jags is already back in training I believe. Neville is already running I read. Its a bit quiet on Anichebe. But I'd say by december Jags and Arteta will 100% and playing.

I hope that the team will be performing well enough that we don't feel under pressure to rush these players back into the side. Hopefully they can work their way back in & then re-establish themselves in the team as a result of their performances.
