An appeal has gone out to help trace a Good Samaritan who rushed to the aid of a fan who began choking on some food during Everton’s 3-1 victory against Chelsea.

It happened around mid-way through the second half of the game at Goodison Park.

Jason Paton, who was in sitting in the main stand at the stadium, said: “I first became aware of what was happening when I heard a lot of shouting going on behind me, with fans calling for stewards.

“An Everton fan had started to fit and choke on some food in the row behind.

“He was desperately struggling for air and was in a bad way. His face was red and his eyes were rolling.

“An Everton fan just popped up from nowhere and rushed to the man. He began giving him back slaps and dislodged the food from the man’s throat.

“His fitting slowed and St John’s ambulance and stewards arrived a few minutes later to take him away.

“We should find this hero and recognise him. It’s quite possible he saved the guy’s life.”

Jason, from New Brighton, said the man who came to the fan’s rescue was in his late 30s/early 40s with brownish hair.

Good to see the bloke is okay. Even if the bloke who helped him chooses remain anonymous, it's good to see people help one another. That story in the papers about the poor lady getting robbed by two girls at a cash point whilst I load of people stood by and watched and did nothing to help knocked me sick. Stuff like this cheers you up.

I think there is loads wrong with this country, but the fact that people refuse to help each other in times of great need is sickening. Good on that person who helped a fellow human being in distress.

Well done Tommy Lefebure!

The Good Samaritan who helped save an Everton FC fan’s life after he began choking on some food during Saturday’s match has come forward.

Many fans praised the actions of the mystery man who rushed to the fan’s aid mid-way through Everton’s 3-1 victory over Chelsea.

His identity has now been revealed as Tommy Lefebure, a 49-year-old Everton fan from Southport.

And, as with all heroes, the dad-of-one remained typically modest about his actions on the day.

He said he first became aware something was wrong when he heard a lot of shouting coming from about four rows in front of him in the main stand.

He added: “People were screaming for a steward. I saw the man’s ears and neck had gone purple.

“I’d done a first-aid course a couple of years ago so I just knew he was choking.

“I ran down, banged his back and did the Heimlich manoeuvre to try and get rid of the obstruction.

“He just came round and the colour came back to his face. I helped him down to where the stewards and St John Ambulance were.

“It was the first time I’d ever put my first-aid training into practice and it was very scary. I just hope he’s ok.”

Tommy said he was a devoted Evertonian who had been attending home games with his daughter, Georgia, 17.

One spectator said of the incident: “He was very quick to respond running from his seat to go straight to the man who was choking. A few fans applauded him afterwards but he wasn’t interested in receiving any accolade for it!

“He even helped the man down the stairs for him to receive medical treatment and returned later to watch the remainder of the game.”
