There's an interesting piece on the BBC site today about Henry.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/europe/7070598.stm

Some of the interesting quotes from the piece.

"Barcelona are a different team, with a very different way of playing and I, too, have to play differently.

"Maybe I haven't been at my best level up to now, but I try to help the team and have scored four goals."

I can see comparisons here between him and Yakubu. Yak has after all scored three goals in eight games. Yobo said on the OS this week that he's beginning to settle into the club now, and perhaps most importantly is beginning to learn how to play the Everton way and succeed in our method of play.

I doubt anyone here would suggest Henry is hopeless and would grant him time to settle into his new club and the new way he has to play. Considering Yak is 2nd in goals behind Henry I think we should give him the same opportunity.

One thing I will say about Henry whenever I have watched him live he has always struck me as very lazy. He doesnt run until he is passed to or has to. Apparently its been commented on before that he saves his energy for those explosive bursts of pace that get him into scoring positions.

We need to have a look at what we actually want a goal scorer or a team player that occassionally scores and helps the team?

When he does run he runs like the wind though. Personally I think Yakubu was bought to the club because he scores goals, lots of goals. It's expected of most strikers to do a bit of defensive work from the front but personally I couldn't care less if he's chasing all over the place as long as he's scoring goals.

Everyone has to contribute something to the team. His job is primarily to score goals. If he's not scoring and not doing much else then fair enough but as long as he's scoring I'm happy. A goal and an assist against Derby isn't bad going in anyones book.

Yeah I agree. Although it can be a bit frustrating watching a striker just watch opposition defenders pass the ball around with all the time in the world. Thats why i think AJ will do well with Yak, AJ doesnt let opposition defenders settle, while Yak looks for opportunities to score. Good combinations - on paper.

I don't really want to get into a comparison of the two players (at least not on this thread) as I'm not personally sure there is a great deal. The point I was trying to make is that when you move to a new team it takes time to settle in to the new way of playing before you can start playing to your best.

In recent weeks we've seen improvements from both Jagielka and Pienaar as they begin to come to terms with what is expected of them, and I think the same improvement is coming from Yakubu as well.

Jeez ok Bruce, I didnt think I deviated away too much from the thread topic! Looks like I broke the unwritten rules of forum decorum (that rhymes:lol: )

Let AJ do all the chasing. That's his game.

Chasing is NOT Yakubu's game. Never has been. I'm confident Moyes knew that before he bought him.

Let's see how it pans out. It's waaaaaaaaay too early to start saying whether things have worked out or not.

Could well be that Yak will be a starter tonight so we will see how he shapes up but really to compare him to Henry thats like a gazelle to an ox.

And we all know Bruce and his stats, would be lost with out them.

As for Pienaar is he not on a season loan? so why sign him in January?

I knew this would happen. I blame you Sim :P

To repeat, I'm not comparing the two in terms of ability. What I'm saying (if you lot read the initial post :P ) is that Henry, by his own admission, is well below his best at the moment because he has yet to fully adapt his style of play to the way Barcelona play.

So any comparison I was making was in the fact that neither are playing to the top of their ability and that the process of adapting ones game to a new style of play is a big factor in that.
