Henderson/Jones and what that means for us?

With the news the RS have all but signed Henderson and Man Utd apparently having agreed a deal to sign Jones from Blackburn, I was wondering what, if anything could that mean for us?

By all accouts Wenger had talks with Jones on Tuesday, and it's no secret he desperately wants to sign a CB. Having missed out on Jones, can we expect a bid for Jagielka in the coming days? It wouldn't be the first time. There are also reports they are planning a bid tor Baines with Clichy only having a year to run on his contract.

With UTD's imminent signing of Jones, are we to assume they won't be bidding for Rodwell? Will they want to spend upwards of £20 million on potential?

With the RS signing Henderson, is a deal for Adam not top of their list any more?

Going by previous summers, we're going to have to sell someone to generate some funds. Would selling Jags to the Arse, signing Adam and giving the rest of the money to Moyes to invest be the best solution?

Wenger simply will not meet our asking price for Jagielka.
He will sign somebody younger and cheaper and Arsenal will win nothing next season.

Jagielka is one of the cornerstones of our team and should only be sold for really silly money.

I think Jags would do well at Emirates.
Not saying that I want Jags to leave. He should definitely stay.

But then again, we have 3 top centre-backs with Distin who was simply amazing this season, Jags and Johnny.
If DM sold Jags, Heitinga + Distin would be a rock solid defense too. Plus, it would be a chance to get a fresh defender in.

I don't see Jags leaving for Emirates, though. Both, Jags and Vermaelen would be left-footed centre backs and it would be quite unusual to play two of those. Neither Jags, nor Vermaelen would want to be on the bench. Arsenal should better be searching for a younger, cheaper left-footed CB or a good right foot as Squillaci wasn't exactly the shining star in Arsenal's defense. Though being signed to OL till 2014, Lovren could be what Wenger could need.

Anyway, don't touch the Jag!

If Wenger is serious about getting his CBs in order it's looking like his only option left is Cahill. I don't think he will come for Jags because he knows it will cost him big. I also read somewhere that Cahill wants Arsenal so it's up to Wenger to meet the 16m in Cahill's contract.

Jags is staying.

I can't see Wenger looking to sign another "young prospect" at CB. I think he will look for a player who is at the peak of his powers. If it came down to losing Jagielka, Baines or Rodwell who would we cope best without?

I would hate us sell Rodwell on the cheap this summer, I can't help thinking that in two years time he is going to have developed into something very special.

At least it says a lot about how one gets to charge inflated prices for english players.

Now, jags is getting to be a regular CB on the national team, same goes for Baines, and Rodders has it all to earn soon. I can't see why any of these players could be worth less than £20m with the way this market is acting.

Oh, and as far as i know Jagielka is right-footed.
Moyes would like a left-footer to partner him, like Distin has. Once it's over for Distin, we'd be having to get another left-footer. We were in for Verthongen of Ajax last summer, he's left-footed but would probably cost something like £10-15m and has gone on record saying he ain't going to anything but a big, big club, so it's out, but it's gonna be a pressing concern once Distin starts fading, which may just well be during next season. We shall wait and we shall see. And we shall hope Duffy and Mustafi come good.

The only implication for us emerging from the Henderson/Jones transfers is the astronomic fees involved, moreso when the players are English.
It means that any clubs can forget about sniffing around Goodison for cheap bargains.
Players such as Rodwell,Baines and Jagielka carry a huge premium.

How much are you expecting for Jags? We'd need to buy a replacement for him, 8 million for Adam is the estimated value i've heard (he's vastly over-rated, a bad beaut and we don't need anyone in his position) which would leave, with the amount we'd need to invest to get get a replacement anywhere near as good as Jag's...surely a minus amount. If Wenger offered 50 million(it would be nearer 5) then without buying Adam this may be a goer

I think that Jagielka is a cornerstone of the team,a bit like Terry at Chelsea.
There is more than just money involved.I think that it would probably take somewhere
around 30m to convince the manager to sell.He has already said that he sees Jagielka as the next captain at Everton
and is a player he simply won't want to lose.
Really I don't see Arsenal coming to Everton this summer to buy.Wenger likes bargains and is not going to get one at Goodison.

Agree with this. Wenger tried for the Jag last year & got nowhere. I doubt he'd come back again. For me Cahill now has plenty of premiership experience at centre half and would probably be more up Wenger's street.

Safe to say i think it means we'll be hanging on to Rodwell a little longer. If he cements himself in the team in the way Henderson and Jones did, then we might see renewed interest.

Arsenal will be looking at Samba, Cahill, Vertonghen and Sakho now.

If Jags goes so be it, we have Jonny to step in, bring back Yobo ideal sub then go and get a top forward/winger with the money. My worry is the lack of pace in the team ,speculation at the moment is doing my head in but I dont want us to get left behind if all the others start doing business.

Think Rodders needs to be commanding more games and becoming a force in the next year or two or he won't be worth anything like 20m plus. Mind you if he does he will become priceless, a la Stevie La a few years ago
