Try to begin with the most interesting thing you have to say, this will capture your audience's attention. Speak slowly, clearly and above all try to relax.
Practise your talk a couple of times at home, maybe record yourself if you have time and listen to what you sound like. If you speak too fast, slow it down etc.
Five minutes is longer than it sounds, so timing it by recording and pacing it - is a good idea.

In the states public speaking follows the time honored tradition of picking a topic that no one is interested in and screaming at the audience for not being interested in that topic. So I really don't know what to tell you.
