Togger Blue
Player Valuation: £5m
Keith Harris, a Scouser and now in his 70's has been the driving force promoting youth footy in Wigan for over 30 years. He's put thousands of hours into organising and developing the Wigan & District Youth Football League, as well as being involved with the Wigan Referee's Society, and he also follows the local adult Saturday & Sunday Leagues.
In 2007 he also helped establish the Chris Maclure Foundation (a registered charity) after Chris, a former player in the Youth League and a massive Evertonian, was killed in a road accident. The Foundation has now raised more than £25K which has helped to encourage, support and develop aspiring new Footy coaches and referees; provide kit & equipment to the smaller needy football clubs & teams which may otherwise have folded; promote & attract the youngest children (boys & girls) from Under 7's upward to start playing small-sided footy at the Wigan Soccerdome and many other forms of help and assistance. The result is more than 1,000 children and young people play footy every weekend in the area in a safe & structured environment.
Anyway, Keith has won the County & Regional awards and is now in the last 6 nominees to win the National award (cut off date on 31/7). Please see the Lancashire FA news page & scroll to the link to vote. Ta
