Player Valuation: Free Transfer
Hello everyone! I've been a bit slow in posting my introduction but I'm so glad to be here. I owe a great deal to the people on this site for many things over the years, but especially for helping me understand the ins and outs of visiting Goodison earlier this year for my first and last match at that glorious ground, and I can't be more thankful. Here's my attempt at answering the intro questions:
Where about are you from?: Currently in the Boston area (Massachusetts, USA). Originally from Western New York, USA.
How did you find these forums?: I've been a casual reader (lurker) for so long I can't remember.
How did you become an Evertonian?: This story's probably only interesting to me, but it means so much to me! In the summer of 1982 I was at a soccer (apologies for the terminology, I'm in the USA) training camp. I had been playing throughout my childhood and loved it, but in that era it was hard to actually see matches from overseas. One of the camp coaches brought in a video cassette (one of those big U-matic type ones) one day and played a tackling and recovery sequence that then turned into an offensive attack. We watched over and over as two center backs worked together with a brilliant/strong tackle, then passing, then attacking clearance. It was mesmerizing. And though it wasn't from what we might consider a proper broadcast video these days, you could hear some crowd noise, and the sound the supporters made as this all happened was out of this world. I could see the crowd in the background going absolutely wild, bathed in blue. I found out that day I was watching Everton at Goodison Park and I've never been the same since. The man with the great tackle was Kevin Ratcliffe and I later figured out his partner in the action was Mark Higgins. Without being able to actually watch the team other than periodic random bits (it just wasn't an available option in those days in the US), I followed the team in scorelines and news articles in international sporting papers and magazines and some of the early late-night sporting broadcasts in the US that would randomly cover the sport, and was completely taken in by the ensuing Howard Kendall years. I've been a Blue from afar ever since and am forever grateful.
Your all-time favourite Everton player?: This is too hard for my simple blue brain.
Your current favourite player?: Séamus Coleman.
Pineapple on Pizza, Is it socially acceptable? What are your views?: Hawaiian-style pizza is one of my favorite kinds of pizza, so I support pineapple as a topping! I'm also very much a fan of the TV show Psych, so any fellow Psych-Os will understand when I say that I am a fan of delicious flavor.
Up the Toffees!
