Hi guys, I'm just looking for a bit of tech help.

My student loan finally came in this week so I thought I'd spooge a bit of it on some decent headphones. I've been poor for far too long and I'm well and truly sick and tired of using the sh*te HTC headphones that came with my phone. It offends my music.

So, I'm looking to spend up to (and maybe a bit above) £100, I think I should be able to get a good pair for that. I'm looking for something that I can use in uni, on the train, in the gym, and at home, so I don't want a pair that looks like I've got a UFO on each ear. Device wise I'll either be using them with my HTC One X or an iPod if I ever get a new one, or my laptop/TV.

Annoyingly I'm still not sure if I want "in ear", "earphones" or "over ear", "headphones", I like the look of some decent over ear headphones but I don't want to look like a tw*t in the gym and being quite clumsy I'm scared I'll break a pair of earphones as they're so delicate, or just lose them. Earphones are cheaper too but they would be totally useless for use at home.

I had a look at wireless headphones (for home and portable use) but it seems as though the sounds quality isn't all that?

*if anyone suggests those Beats monstrosities they're getting negged back to the ice age*

Any way. These have been tickling my fancy in particular:

I like the look of these although they may be a little expensive for me:

(The reviews are fantastic for these)

This looks to be a bit of a steal? They're rechargeable too

£250 most places but down to £120

THERE'S TOO MANY TO CHOOSE FROM FFS!!!!

I'm really hoping someone like Dylan comes on here later and saves me.x

Go for the Sennheiser HD558 if you can afford them. I think Sennheiser make excellent headphones generally.

Don't waste your money on anything Bose make. Overpriced crap IMO.

I use cheap earphones (not the in-ear variety) when on the go or at the gym. Nothing fancy, and I don't have to worry about them being damaged. (Sennheiser MX 580).

When I want a proper audio experience I use my headphones (I don't carry them to uni because of issues of portability and because they're more expensive). Sennheiser HD 449 (£75 on Ebay).

For a balance between sound quality and portability, I'm guessing in-ear earphones are the best, but since my ear canals are very narrow I don't use these (they tend not to stay in the ears). So I have no recommendations.

Wireless headphones? Never used any, but I can imagine that compatibilty would be a problem.

Do you reckon there would be much difference between them and the HD 518's?

I could probably stretch to getting the 518's and some £20-£30 earphones so I'd have all bases covered, but I'd always be thinking what if I'd spend the extra money...

Those Denon's I just posted are intriguing with the rechargeable function to it, that and they're half price! I suspect they're way overpriced to begin with though? Plus they look a bit sh*te.

Yeah I suppose I'm not arsed about the quality when I'm at the gym, I just don't want a pair that fall out, as that really annoys me!

The ones you suggested there which I've bolded, they're a newer model (the two Sennheiser's I posted are from mid 2010) but the reviews aren't as strong. The 558's have rave reviews literally everywhere with the 518's not too far behind.

I'm so confused.

Not listened to music through them personally, but from my experience of Sennheiser's products I wouldn't have thought you'd be disappointed in either TBH.

I've just seen some of the 558's on Ebay for around £110 so i may go for them and just persevere with crappy earphones for the gym until I can afford to replace them.

Agree with that, Sennheiser make excellent headphones. I tried a few different makes before Sennheiser and wish I had listened to others recommendations sooner.

I love Sennheiser headphones but ive had 3 pairs now and they've all went faulty. Im going to try something different this time
