I once won a pub quiz and it got me barred.
My stepdad (bless his heart) used to love the local scruffians pub and asked me and my missus to join him and my mum there one night for the ‘really difficult’ pub quiz.
When the quiz started I thought it was a wind up as the questions were aimed at a 10-12 year old knowledge level. Anyhow, we won, scoring 100/100 and took the weekly £20 prize (this was 25 years ago so worth quite a few pints) and got a few dirty looks.
Apparently, this then got me the chance at the snowball question which hadn’t been won for weeks. Another easy question (who wrote the novel Kidnapped) and I was a further £200 better off. More dirty looks and a lot of grumbling ensued.
Next time I went round to my Mum’s my stepdad took me to one side and informed me I was barred for life and he was threatened with violence if he ever brought “that smart alec [Poor language removed]” ever again.
