It depends what the sperm cells are in ie. if in a Petri dish and in their seminal fluid (essentially 'sperm food') they can last days. Frozen, obviously they last longer.

If, say, they go down the sewer and meet with an egg, one of two things occur;

1/ they die off rapidly

2/ this happens, ears and all
