I'm not 100% certain on the back story but as I understand it he shot and killed a police officer (can't recall if he killed 3 ) after an armed robbery went wrong and the police gave chase.... Anyhow, he was released this week after 48 years in prison ( had an original recommendation of 30 years ), .... Discuss.

He's served his time given to him by the laws of the land and that's that.

I personally think cop killers should receive whole life sentences, but I also think that of pedophiles and child killers. Not going to happen though because our justice system is utterly stupid.

He shot two unarmed police officers and helped to kill a third. Also it wasnt after an armed robbery that went wrong, him and his accomplices were scoping out a potential robbery and the three police officers happened to question them as to what they were doing. Two of them were shot as they were trying to get away. Finally he has by all accounts shown zero remorse.

He was very lucky the law changed just before the three murders because Mr. Pierrepoint would definately have had his number.

Lke I said, the details I could recall were quite sketchy.... Wasn't the third officer shot through a car window ? ( or did I just make that up ? ) .... Very lucky to have escaped the hangman I agree.

He's an old man who's served nearly 50 years in prison. It's not conducive to the public good to keep in prison. Having done the time he should be allowed to live whatever time he has left in freedom. As hard as that will be for the victims families, it is all about what is best for the wider public. There is no point keeping an extremely low risk old man in prison when there can be a much more dangerous threat in the cell he would have been taking up.

Just to put another slant on things... It was reported it will cost the tax payer more for him to live in the community than it would to keep him in prison .
