Marks and Spencer unveils Christmas food 2016

For despite there being 165 days to go until December 25, Marks & Spencer have unveiled their Christmas food collection.

So whether you've suddenly got a lot more time on your hands or are as busy as David Cameron's estate agent, it's time we can all turn our attention to eating, drinking and being merry.

Here are Natalie Murphy's picks for a festive feast to get your mouth watering - even in July.

1) Three bird roast sausage rolls (12 for £5)
mnssausagerolls.jpg

We thought the fad for multiple-meat roasts was so 2012 but this snack-based twist on the concept is one we're happy to welcome.

These mini-bites feature crisp all-butter pastry filled with turkey, chicken duck and bacon that are perfect for entertaining, just don't forget to order something for the veggies.

2) Fire roasted tortilla chips dipped in dark chocolate (125g for £2)
When the M and S food team were asked to improve on the humble tortilla chip, they came up with a genius solution – coat it in chocolate.

This is the ultimate sweet and savoury combination with spicy red bell and jalepeno peppers and rich dark chocolate with a crunchy bite, what's not to like?

3) Chocolate Pine Cones (6 for £12)
mnspinecones.jpg

These pretty desserts dusted in gold lustre are almost too lovely to eat but put them on your table at Christmas they are sure to disappear as fast as the real thing falls off the trees in autumn.

Each is filled with chocolate mousse and there's a hidden chocolate truffle in each one.

4) Mini Santa Hats (12 for £4)
mnssantahats.jpg

If anyone should be indulged at Christmas it's the kids and they will love these cute hats that Santa himself would be proud of.

Sweet meringue is topped with raspberry jelly and fresh vanilla cream to fun effect.

5) Cornish Cove Wreath (110g for £5)
A novelty shaped cheese that's far more useful than an actual wreath on the door that only the neighbours get to enjoy.

This is studded with juicy cranberries and apricots and would make a great table centre piece after dinner.

6) Chocolate Christmas Pudding (1.2kg for £12)
mnschristmaspudding.jpg

We do love a traditional Christmas pudding but at a time of excess, all the fruit packed into it can seem dangerously healthy which is why we're delighted to see this chocolate version from M and S.

It's layered with chocolate buttercream and has a hidden centre of golden sixpence chocolate coins that won't damage Nan's dentures.

7) Posh Fish Fingers with Salt and Vinegar Snow (10 for £5)
mnsfishfingers.jpg

These aren't just fish fingers, they're M and S fish fingers and they come with a minted pea dipping sauce.

We look forward to Bob Carver's rebranding their condiments for Christmas by following M and S's lead and offering salt and vinegar 'snow' free with every festive fish supper.

8) Christmas Cobbler Cocktail (50cl for £12)
mnscocktail.jpg

Despite what we said about traditional Christmas puddings, we are willing to make some concessions towards health and fitness at Christmas and this pre-mixed cocktail is just the ticket.

It combines sherry with the back in fashion superfood favoured by foodie bloggers – beetroot – so a glass probably counts as one of your five-a-day.

9) Smoked Salmon and Scrambled Egg Mini Croissants (10 for £7)
Breakfast can be neglected at Christmas with so much food to enjoy throughout the day but you won't miss the most important meal of the day when these little treats are on offer.

They are delicate enough not to spoil the main event and easy to wolf down during present opening too.

10) Oudinot Champagne Truffles (140g for £12)
Even at the point at which we feel we can't eat anymore until next Christmas, we just know we won't be able to turn down one of these luxurious chocolates, served in a gold keepsake jar.

It's only once a year afterall, even if we have started planning it before the August bank holiday.
