Happiness?

What is it? No one is or can be happy all the time. So how do you define it?

Saw a stat that Americans consume 70% of the anti-depressants in the world yet we're the richest country. I'm always kind of amazed what we as Americans think we need to be happy (and I include myself here, I'm no better) compared to the rest of the world.

So weigh in here, I want everyone's thoughts. How do you define "happiness" and is it even possible to define it?

Great question and one I've been thinking a lot about recently.

For me it's best to strip it down and define happy moments and a single period of time. Our lives are generally too busy and stressful to be happy as a default.

So for me being happy is about sitting back in that moment and looking round and deciding there and then that I'm content in where I am at. Nothing complex.

See the way you have linked financial wealth with happiness? That is a symptom of affluenza and will never lead to happiness.
Maybe a bit less focus on monetary gain and a bit more focus on the simple things in life will make you a bit happier. Hearing birds singing, the smell of nature (especially gum trees), the sound of rolling waves at the beach - whatever it is that brings a little smile to your face or makes you stop just for a moment - that is happiness
