Stood behind some huge guy with Hafnia on his back at Liverpool airport back in the day .........Turned out to be Kevin Ratcliffe and the rest of the Everton FA cup winning team on their way to Ireland in the early rounds of the cup winners cup

Hafnia were unusual as sponsors in the context of the day with football much less global in outlook than it is now. A pigmeat processing company in Denmark sponsoring the best club team in Europe. Was going to say England then but that wouldn't do justice to the 85 team.

They had a big presence in Denmark on a corporate and social level in the 80s. In the heyday of Sepp Pionteks wonderful Denmark team, Hafnia always had prominent advertising behind one of the goal ends in the old Parkenstadion in Copenhagen. I have been to Denmark many, many times and the coincidence of their national sides rise in fortunes with ours in the 80s brings back many happy memories for me.

Just shows how far sighted and creative Everton were back then, and European in outlook. Philip Carter in particular really was a leader off the pitch in that spell, exactly the sort of vision and leadership we need today.
