Had a dodgy phone call this morning.

Royal

Player Valuation: £10m
Some youngish lad (about my own age, 18-22) rang up claiming to be representing Everton football club. Used my name and that. Asked how I thought the team were gonna get on then said something about Brazil in Blue. Thought it was a bit weird.
He then said "I'm gonna need you to confirm your address and post code" so I hung up.
Wondering if anyone else has had something similar and if someone knows whats going on. He had my name and knew I was a blue with confidence. Bit weirded out more than anything.

Hah, I had the same happen to me a couple of days ago. I did confirm my details, after which he said he was calling from Everton in the Community and wanted to convince me to buy some lottery tickets.

The whole thing still sounded very dodgy so I hung up shortly after as well.

I had that. Confirmed phone number and email address then thought '[Poor language removed] this' and told them I wasn't interested after the girl asked for my bank account details.

Defo wouldn't give bank details like.

If it actually is Everton in the community I'll feel quite harsh but it did sound dodgy as. The feller sounded proper scouse as they come too which didn't help. Boss being prejudiced against my own people like.

Not been contacted personally, but if a few blues have received same/similar calls you should raise it with the club. They'll either confirm it's them, or tell you who they pass your details to. If they don't pass them to anyone, then they might have a problem ie someones leaked / someones stole a database of fans details etc

How someone has managed to get everyone's details is unknown.

There's definitely a scam going on.

Somebody should let the club know so they can put the word out.

Yeah i got this, told them to ring back in a week, I have no intention of buying anything, never even got as far as the bank details part. I'm very sceptically though, don't understand why I should confirm my details when you have contacted me.

He knew I had a season ticket based on him ringing me, but didn't know I've had it for 15+years, bit strange.

Sounds very, very dodgy.

I got the same call last Thursday while I was on my home from work at about 4.30. It was a woman, with a very strong Liverpool accent, who said she was calling on behalf of EFIC. After declining to make a lottery agreement over the phone I told her that I would make donations but in my own time. She asked me if I knew how to do so and told me where on the website to go, then thanked me for my support.

I didn't get the feeling it was dodgy but I never ever accept offers from a cold call no matter what, and never agree to my info being passed to a third party. Nevertheless, I didn't appreciate it, first time I've ever had a cold call on my mobile.

Dealing with something similar to this at the moment, a prosecution on Behalf of Trading Standards. Well-organised fraud on a national scale.

Do not under any circumstances EVER give information of a personal nature out over the phone. When they ask you to confirm your details, pay attention to whether or not they have actually stated what details they already hold - if they don't have any yet, they're not asking for confirmation, they're just demanding to invade your privacy.

The amount of extra info that can be discovered about you, when someone who knows what they are doing has got hold of your email address or your date of birth or similar, is quite frightening.

The only thing I would ever do is ask THEM for info. The caller's full name, landline number form where they're calling, postal address of where they're calling from, name of the company and how they got my phone number. If they can't or won't answer these questions, it's a scam. 100%. If they DO answer those questions, tell them to write to you at the address they already have - don't EVER confirm any of your details, even if they read something out to you that is correct.

And for reasons I cannot go into, don't EVER accept a free trial of a service, or sample of a product, when it's offered over the phone or via email. Never.

How exactly do you propose that I get my free money If I don't confirm those details? Also if I ask them to write to me it's gonna take a lot longer for them to send me a cheque than if I just gave them my bank details and let them transfer me the money.
