Mikel Arteta was awesome against Sunderland, and has been one of the most consistent performers in the Premier League. Everton's biggest problem will be how to keep hold of the former Rangers player. Now it appears Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is contemplating a move for the assist machine (various).

Consistently overlooked by the Spanish national side, 25-year-old Arteta might feel that the best way to sneak into the squad would be to be playing with the big boys of the Premier League. No offence to Everton but if he was plying his trade at the Emirates he may stand a better chance of making it to Euro 2008.

Even though Arteta only signed a long-term deal in the summer, it could be that David Moyes wouldn't stand in the way should Arsenal come in for the creative midfielder and figures of around £10 to £12m have been mentioned.

Another big joke here, not because Gunner are interested in our Arteta but more of there valuation of Arteta £10~12M, you wouldn't even get Howard off us with that money, £12M for Arteta in your dream may be you could!

I read this before. I especially like the 'David Moyes wouldn't stand in his way' bit because the mighty Arsenal are interested!

Do these hacks ever take notice of what is happening here? Namely Moyes tying all our first team regulars down on 5 year contracts?

At least it makes a change from the "arteta off to spain" rumours.

Sloppy Journalism though - Arteta is clearly an "assist to the assist" machine at the moment. Which I think makes him a "playmaker" or "spanish schemer" in lazy-journo-land. Credit for trying to think of new monikers though.

And I'd put money on Davie Moyes standing RIGHT in the way with his meanest bulgey stare.

Just wait, we'll be loaning him out to Preston next!

who is arteta gunner be linked with next?

arsenal aim for maestro arteta

wenger sees arteta as spanish international alongside fabregas

on fire arteta lights arsenes imagination

arteta merits emirates move to glory

(this [Poor language removed] journalism lark is a bit of fun)

My favorite site for Monday morning is F365's "Winners and Losers."

Well here were two from the "Winners" column:

Everton
To highlight the flaws in Sunderland's soft centre for three of Everton's seven goals - as Match of the Day did to tedious excess - was to unfairly overlook the quality of the other four, particularly that of Steven Pienaar's.

Emboldened by the draw at Stamford Bridge two weeks' previously, Everton were unrecognisable, strutting with a zest and panache previously unseen during the Moyes' era. The Scot was fully justified in hailing the performance as the best of his career.

Mikel Arteta
Spain must be certainties to win Euro 2008 if they can continue to ignore the Everton midfielder.

Indeed.

Arteta would be atleast 20 million, he may not be that good, but he's that valuble to us.

and howard? £12 miliion?! no way!! £15 million atleast :P

i'm pretty sure arteta's boots alone are worth atleast 12 mil, if they do offer something like that i hope moyes will be as offended as every other evertonian is.

The thing is every top club on the planet would be intrested in arteta, he's utter class. dont meen they can have him thou.if carrick was worth 18m arteta is worth 25-30m at least.

Exactly mate. I'd be really surprised if any club in the premiership wouldnt try to buy him off us if they could. But the problem for them is:
A, he geniunly seems to enjoy playing for us
B, there is a stumbling block of a brand new 5 year contract in the way too.

I'd say £25 Million is his value, because that what it would cost us to find a player of his abilities.

I will personally leg it onto the pitch and chain myself to his ankles before seeing him go to another club - especially another English club.

He'd probably still be the best player on the pitch even dragging me behind him

Maybe fabregas should think about coming to us so he can play with a quality midfield....
