Guardiola's Jibbed it at Barca

I dont think theyll go for Bale (whose stock has gone up because he isnt playing left back), and Llorente wouldnt get in the side for many games if Villa, Messi and Sanchez are all fit. Fellaini would be more likely but they would have to use him like they used to use Yaya Toure.

If I were Tito, I would go for Javi Martinez before anyone else, and tell Pique to get a proper girlfriend.

The Fabregas signing looks like a major blunder to me. It puzzled me when it happened. It was like there was some unstoppable campaign to bring him back into the Barca fold that overtook common sense. For me, Fabregas is top dog in a team or nothing; you only get the best out of him when he's dictating games from the centre. He was always going to struggle in a team with two obvious leaders being played week in, week out and who operate in the same space as he does. He hasn't been disastrous, but youi have to ask yourself whether Barcelona would have been ok without him, and the answer is yes. At £30M, that's an expensive luxury Barca have on their hands.

Purely to keep a barca boy out of the hands of Madrid IMO. I honestly believe Cesc is a better player than Xavi and will prove this in the fullness of time.

Bold statement, but he can do a lot of things: collect from deep and pull the strings further up the pitch and get on the end of things. Dare I say it, but for this Barcelona at least, he's a bit too dynamic.

Agree 100%. He's got 20 a season and another 20 assists in him with the right side. I think Man utd are crying out for a player like him, though I reckon he's taking Xavi's slot in the next 18-24 months.

I like how people say "Alexis has only scored 14 this season, Fabregas has 15 but isn't really an attacker" - isn't that like double the amount of goals our top scorer has scored this season?

Granted, Jelavic has only been playing for about 2 months but you get the point.

Sure, but I reckon they'd prefer it if their top scorer didn't have 4 times as many as their 2nd top scorer. It's still probably true that if you shut down Messi others aren't really stepping up to help often enough.

I don't buy the fact he is drained.

He has the arguably the best players in the world and a budget, you don't leave that behind lightly.

Has anyone read that barcelona book by Graham Hunter? It's fascinating.

What a position to fill, he has stepped aside, so its poison chalice time for whoever. On top of the worry being in 12 months time he wants back in.

There are a few ways of looking at that.

There's that but they've struggled at times away from home and it's why they find themselves where they are in the league. Not entirely sure why that is either to be honest, maybe there's some kind of mental block. They had their chances at Stamford Bridge and didn't take them.

Barcelona should of won 6-1 there because the had good chances but the never went in so Chelsea was just lucky

Maybe Guardiola believes the system has been worked out and teams are gradually getting to grips with how to handle them. In that case, the promotion of the #2 makes no sense and they should have looked outside the club.

It does feel like a watershed moment has arrived in football again. The first half of the second CL SF was a great advertisement for power, pace and width. The centre of midfield seemed less congested and a more open game resulted. This is what excites fans and what the best teams in Europe must offer now. That might be the lesson to draw from this season's CL campaign.
