Why hasn't he reproduced his Barcelona team at Munich?

Messi. Messi is the answer. Without Messi who was then at his young incredibly brilliant and magical best Pep's Barcelona was a possession machine with no teeth.

Mourinho ( who knows a thing or two about managing ) said the best team in Europe is the one with Messi and the best manager the one with Messi in his team.

We'll see if he can reproduce at City without the freakishly gifted Messi what he did at Barcelona. We know he hasn't done do at Munich.

so he's supposed to produce one of the best teams in history everywhere he goes

Will be interesting to see how Bayern get on under Ancelotti. Whether they'll be as dominant in the Bundesliga as they have been in the last 3 years.

I expect he will win the CL.

Of course, Pep has confirmed that the only thing he's interested in is money, not creating beautiful sides. How do the hipsters feel about this?

No of course not. What I am saying is that the credit he gets for Barcelona simply wouldn't be there were it not for Messi. Without Messi his Barcelona would have been strong of course but was no more or less great than Del Bosque's Spain....both possession machines but only one had the magic dust sprinkled by the most potent dribbler/finisher of all time then at his young and almost unmarkable best.

Everything exceptional about Pep is in fact Messi related.

His man City will not rival that team and I know this because a 21, 22, 23 year old phenomenon called Messi won't be in it.

But that wasn't your argument. Your argument was that he's a novice. So you're saying he's a novice because he he needed Messi to put together one of the best teams in history?

I am saying he is a novice at managing without outstanding, truly outstanding ( and in the case of Messi truly unique ) resources at his disposal.

At Bayern what he has done is what any competent manager would do. I regard the football they played in the last year under heynckes as more compelling, more complete than any under Pep.

His Barcelona was great. I totally accept that . Essentially Del Bosque's serial Spanish winners with messi in addition.....of course they were great.

Frankly he same applies to Enrique who may well have a double treble come May. Having MSN helps a bit.

Pep ( and Enrique ) rank beloe the likes of revie, kendall, Clough, Stein and will do until they stop holding sugar daddy's hand and actually build a team from scratch to be champions.

Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller has revealed the harsh words used by manager Pep Guardiola to his team during their 4-2 extra-time victory over Juventus in Wednesday's last-16 UEFA Champions League second leg.

Muller made it 2-2 on the night to force extra-time in the 91st minute—after Bayern had gone 2-0 down inside half an hour at the Allianz Arena—and the German explained afterwards what Guardiola said before the added half-hour, per Kicker (via ESPN FC's Stephan Uersfeld): "He told us that he'd cut our balls off. Of course, there are a lot of emotions. I wouldn't be any different as a coach. We wanted to play for the third goal, because we still had energy left in us."

Have to say I totally agree. I always said to fans over here that Messi was the difference between Spain and Baça.

Even now, Messi would make Bayern something special.

He's going to City to get Messi & the elite IMO.

They know the score there, they're increasing the capacity beyond belief on a stadium they can't fill already cause they're planning on building the best in Europe and putting superstars on show there which will lead to bums on seats.

The money is there to buy and pay wages to anyone, there is no ceiling. Pep is just the next stage in the jigsaw as he is the man to attract them.

I know City from behind the scenes and the hotels they're building on the site of the Asda next to the unbelievable training facilities and new stands are all part of the long term plan to establish them as the elite. Pep is part of that plan.

Having Messi is obviously a massive help to any manager. However, it is disingenuous to mention Messi and to not mention Guardiola's role in his development. When Pep arrived at Barce he got rid of Ronaldinho and decided to build the team around the talents of Messi. Messi at the time was playing on the right wing, Pep give him more freedom to move from this position before eventually moving him central as a "false nine". In 2008 one would have been considered idiotic to suggest that Messi would play most of his career as a number 9. Furthermore, the season before his arrival Barce had won nothing and subsequently went on to win the treble under his stewardship. Within one season he rebuilt the Barce first team and won everything.
