the win felt like a joyous win, the draw felt like a gut punch loss, and the loss felt like a disappointing draw. wasn't able to sit back and enjoy any of the matches - all were a constant sequence of fraying nerves. but in advancing we've done what an awful lot of people thought we couldn't. still a bit of a really odd day.

edit: #ibelievecoswehavetim

I keep forgetting that we actually lost today. We advanced and we didn't even have to back into it. We were absolutely horrible in South Africa, so this is fairly rewarding to advance from such a difficult group and actually feel deserving of it. We've played some quality football.

(bracing for neg rep doing this, but don't care.)

and the US team plays on...

The MLS players have done very well.

Besler...massively impressed. Thought he'd struggle. He's been really good.
Beckerman...same snidey holding midfielder he is in MLS...snidey in a good way.
Zusi...solid. If he has an ounce of pace, he'd be in the prem.
Yedlin...has looked good in his cameos. Same pace...same skill that has people in Seattle really excited.

Bradley has likely been the worst of the bunch...complete shocker. Dempsey has been Dempsey...he's not the fastest or the most technically gifted...but he's got goals in him. Has done it at every level. Am I forgetting someone?

Gonzalez looked alright against Germany. Still shaky 1v1 but he stood up to a world class attack. The soggy pitch had a part in that.

Davis was suspect but he never really had any chance to play to his strengths.

Indeed...Gonzalez made some critical challenges.

Davis was leaving the inept Bradley alone...when Zusi and Davis switched, defensively we looked far less vulnerable.
