Last night I drove to Pwllheli to do a store delivery. Its a good run from here for those that dont know. Now I'm in an atric carrying a bit of weight, up to 40 ton. About the weight of 40 avarage cars. Not an easy thing to stop in bad weather. On the way I past a few smashes were cars had hit the barriers on the A55 near St Asaph (4 cars). Further on I passed a van that had gone up the bank. Anyway to shorten this I made it there for 10.15pm and left at 11.30pm. On the way back more cars had left the road. Some on the A55 and a few on the M56. Came off at Runcorn and passed another van gone into the barrier. Now am 15 minutes from gettin back the yard and I pass a car facing the wrong way on the Widnes by-pass. I'm headin towards him and I could see him shittin it but I got round him safe and sound. Got to the roundabout where I cross the M62 and slowed down because the lights were on red. As soon as I touched the breaks the cab wanted to go left and the trailer straight on. Eased off and it staightened out but I had to hit the breaks again because of the red light. This time the cab wants to go right and its fish tailing on me. Am all over the fookin road like a wild snake. I managed to control the thing but I knew If I'd have breaked again I'd have jack knifed. I just had to sit with it and let it sort itself out. Meanwhile I go right through the red lighs with no chance of slowing down. It shook me up because if there would have been any cars around someone was gonna get killed. Now all of this was because of black ice. It rained and froze to the floor. And whats made me so fookin mad is I drove all the way to Pwllheli and all the way back without seeing one gritter. Were the roads that bad they were scared to come out? Its just a bit of a rant guys but I'm fookin fumin here and I gotta go back in to work now so can I expect the same again?

I was saying this the other day on here mate. It's almost like they're saving stock. Only after a critical incident last week in Speke that they sent out gritters - at 08:40.

Ridiculous. I can't believe how many cars I've seen come off the road around the areas you've mentioned. South Liverpool is a death trap at the moment.

The police told a woman I was standing with after both our cars came off a slip road that she's likely to have a two to three hour wait before any recovery service could reach her. "We've already been here this morning. There's loads of incidents in the area and they just can't get to them"

Just out of curiosity, do you lot do wintertyres in Britain? Didn't do them myself before 3 year ago, but the difference it makes, is amazing. Unbelievable grip in wintery conditions, wouldn't want to do without them anymore.

That coupled with the fact, I live near the German border and it's illegal there to drive without them in winter. Both by law and for insurance issues.

Sorry, but I somehow only read Danny's post. Glad you're alright Ray. Stay safe.

The A55's one of britains busiest roads, disgusted its not gritted! My dad had to call his highways councillor mate to get flintshire sorted!!

They haven't been near where i live in days. The main road in here is now like a skating rink. Most of the cars cant even get up the hill. Some were stranded for days, and could not get to work. Eventually they had to go and get their own salt, and do the road or people would still be stranded.
The other day a guys car slid down the road and into some parked cars, narrowly missing some kids.

Jesus lads. Stay safe, all of you.

There's not a problem down here at the moment. But when it does get bad, it's horrendous, because they grit the main roads, but it's all minor roads around here, so no can get to the bloody main road.

Thats a problem here too. It's an estate with one way in and out. They do the main roads around (or did) yet nobody can even get out of their own roads because a lot of them are on hills, or just so bad you cant drive on it.

To be fair Conwy Council have done a really good job on our roads, gritters out all the time, but as soon as you get out of Conwy and into Denbighshire (where Blue Ray mentioned) its a deathtrap , yes they had it bad there but if the council can't keep the main roads clear what hope do we have for the side roads , its scary, and its bad out there again tonight. Stay safe everyone xx

Glad your OK Blue Ray. It must have been even more annoying that after driving carefully and safely for what must be over 200 miles, you nearly had a mishap in the last mile or so. Liverpool City Council have been very slow during this snap, and it looks like a few other authorities are trying to save stock. Could be a very long and dangerous winter.

Well folks tonight I drove to Heysham dock with a double decker trailer that was going to the IOM. Roads bad again and felt a few little slips on the M6 near Preston but nothing too major. The road from Lancaster to Morcambe though was a different ball game altogether. Slipped sideways twice and bumped off the kerb. Its about time these so called powers that be realise theres a lot of trucks use the roads at night not just the ones they see in the mornings on theyre way to work. But as usual nothing will get done about it till a truck leaves the road and thunders through someones house while theyre all asleep or crushes a few cars at traffic lights. Just take it easy out there people, theyre not looking after us so look after yourselves and please give the trucks a bit of room. We're struggling out there. Oh and btw I seen one gritter tonight and that was near Wigan.
