I quite like watching this programme ...

I love the fact on most shows the owners want to project manage, although they used to work as eco managers in a forest somewhere on the isle of white and have absolutely zero idea of what it takes to project manage a build, and on this show they are normally really awkward builds at that !

another one is the budget... 'weve set out £300k to build this 7 bedroom eco house in Notting Hill' its of no surprise to find out that the build inevitavbly goes 2 or 3 times over budget and delivered 3 years late... the owners actually age like Roberto Martinez did during his disaterous tenure as our manager, loss of hair and grey beards everywhere, and that's just the mrs !

has anyone built their own home and got any interesting stories on how unbelievably hard it was and how many nervous breakdowns they had whilst doing it?

I built my own 4 bed house a couple of years ago. Did all of the work bar electrics and the boiler install i'm a bit grayer but didn't find it to much of a stress really.
Was offered to be on the telly but declined cause I couldn't be doing with them on site and possibly delaying me and probably trying to dig up any issues the build was causing to me and my family.
Grand designs is a good show though I was on a build it featured a while back

Yep I have been for a good while now.
We are down in the south east and in reality it was the only viable option for us to be able to get a house we could all fit into.
