Government spending 2bn to snoop on our online behaviour

****ing hell last night I was searching for 'felching' on google.

So much gay porn was found. So, so much.

This makes me quite angry.

Labour were still worse for this sort of thing, but I reckon I'll have revised that opinion within a couple of years.

At least they spent on this kind of vanity project when times were good, not when education, health and welfare etc are being slashed and burnt.

The security lobby has far too much power and thanks to our godawful media most ministers are terrified of being seen as "not doing anything" about things that pose the tiniest threat, just in case.

The sad thing is that this is almost identical to a similar plan by the Labour government. Can you guess who at the time critisized that plan? Wouldn't trust any of them as far as I could throw them.

What did you expect?

This inept government not content with leading us headlong into another recession now can find the cash for this nonsense, though i suspect that within a few years this info will be sold off to companies for a nice price i cant see any other reason for it.

Maybe it'll give people pause for thought come election time

The Tories frankly at that time were saying anything to get into power, now they are there it shows how close the thinking is between Labour and the Tories, its paper thin the only difference now it seems is the colour behind the leader at party conferences.

The sad thing is that even if the Tories weren't in government Labour would have done exactly the same. Nice to see David Davies speaking up for civil liberties but it seems his influence is pretty small these days.

According to the Guardian piece, around 500,000 data requests were made last year by the security bods. I mean good god, are we really that unsafe?
