Interesting and quite detailed biog here

Noticed the official site have him in as a defender, seems to have played more in midfield at Plymouth. Clearly regarded as having talent and potential - although very inexperienced!

Saw his quote about "bombing round fullbacks and getting crosses in" too - if we could combine him and Hibbert would we have the ultimate player?

I think he's a long way from ousting Hibbo just yet. Maybe we'll see him this season, prob not. Much to learn.

I wouldn't say a long way. Hibbert was young when he was forced in, and its not like we have a history of not playing under 20's - is it?

If he's good enough, then age has nothing to do with it.

Theres no evidence that he's good enough yet. See the bit in the article about being done by Huckerby. Plus the job of an attacking fullback in the prem is one of the hardest in my opinion - so lots to learn. Moyes doesnt tend to throw his youngsters into the deep end if he can help it either.

By the same token he seems to have risen very quickly, so who is to say.

Well I would say the transfer fee, along with the games already played for Plymouth, and England youth games - is evidence that he is a very good player.

I just wouldn't discount him on his age. Remember Rooney had never played for Everton till he smacked one past Seaman.

I'm discounting him FOR NOW due to lack of familiarity with the club and the level of football being played - and arguably his lack of familiarity with the position.

Rooney - quite apart from being an exceptional talent - was involved with the youth set up and the reserves, as were Vaughan, Anichebe, and the young lads brought on in the UEFA. So he knew the club and was a known quantity himself.

I dont think what i've said is particularly contentious.

you wouldn't. But Moyes has. "he is one for the future." is usually translated as he will feature at a later date.

Not for this season. But good to see us investing in youth, both in coaching and aquisition of promising players.

And as you say, that he paid 1.5 million that may rise to 3 million, for a 17 year old, means that moyes and the scouting dept. must think he has great ability and the potential to be something special in the future.

Or " I'm just not going to fall in the category of forgetting about Gosling until he is into his 20's."

Just saw him with the shirt on the official site, looks like he found the golden ticket in a wonka bar that lad!
Fingers crossed he turns out a good player.

I personally think that now we have his signature, we would, and he would be better served getting 1st team game time back at plymouth for the rest of the season. Then bring him back for the summer and pre-season.

Watched his interview on Everton TV and he might be able to play a few different positions.

What is it with Moyes and finding players who can play in more than one position? I'm not saying it's bad or anything. Just interesting.
