Great choice of image for the cover.... always fascinated by this photo and that contrast of old and new, side by side (or should I say older and newer). The old Mainstand was the great stadium wonder of its era. Room for over 21,000 standing and approx 4,000 seated above. The crucible of the famous Goodison roar. I think some called it the Mauritania stand at one point as reference to the mighty Liverpool Liner of that time. The exposed cross sectional structure of the later replacement, mirroring the classic Leitch deep over-lapping tiers of the old stand but on a grander scale. Showing clearly how the Top Balcony is brought so far forward in a similar fashion to many old US baseball stadia. Shame they never used a larger goal post truss for the roof. It would've been a far more successful design. Thanks for the heads up, I'll be getting my copy asap.
