Gone Are The Days.....

Do you remember the days when the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal would take the bus to third division clubs Darlington and Macclesfield in mid-July for pre-season matches? I do, but those days are long gone and instead of some youngster having the golden chance to play against some of his idols, some bloke from the Chicago Fire gets that opportunity because Manchester United are a
global brand and heading to America is in line with their strategy of continuing to growing their brand among an ever-growing football population who are just falling over shop queues to get the name “Rooneyâ€￾ printed on the back of a Manchester United shirt.

So, if you’re one of those millions of football fans in Thailand, Shaghai or Los Angeles, enjoy your
opportunities to catch a glimpse of the likes of Scholes and Lampard in your backyard, because some bricklayer in Darlington is missing out on that opportunity. By God the game's gone crazy!!!

One day the domestic links with clubs will be irretrievably broken a faux passionate global audience consisting of "soccer fans" will watch a tailored version doing a roadshow like the Hong Kong 7's rugby.

Merchandiser utd, Bayern marauders and Real Malayia will exemplify the corporate aspect with all the contrived hype of the wrestling shows the kids think real.

But after 2 years it'll be fooked off to some obscure tv channel laughed at and treated with the contempt it deserves.

I wonder what the likes of Alf Ramsey,Cloughie,Taylor,Busby etc would make of it. They're probably rolling in their graves right now. What a shame.

Agree with you mate and it's easier for fans around the UK to go and see their team at a reasonable price and a child friendly environment.

It's also a lot cheaper than flying to Indonesia etc...

Once every five years maybe go somewhere like Oz or the States, not every summer.

To be fair I've been to Darlington and its a sh*thole. Any bricklayers should concentrate on doing the place up a bit not gadding about kicking a ball around

ISNT MODERN FOOTBALL BOSS?

I pray and hope the football bubble bursts one day so we can at least have something that resembled how football was in the 60s, 70s and 80s and to the most part some of the 90s too

American fan and i definitely see where you're coming from. It sickens me when i see people coming out in droves to watch the European clubs play DC United, and cheer for the other team, they neglect the perfectly good football we play in our own city, but will turn out to see the huge clubs play. This is symptomatic of the same problem, just observed from the opposite side. The people who turn out to see the big clubs don't understand the game on the same level, they mostly don't follow teams, european or local, with any sort of passion.

However, I'm also a huge everton fan, and though i've been a supporter for much less time than most of you, I know how much the club means to me. I was thrilled to see DC United play Everton last summer, I watched it as a neutral fan and enjoyed some spectacular football. I treasured the opportunity to see my team, and i'm sure some committed man united fans in the states would react the same way. Still though, i freely concede i'm in the minority there, and i agree that a non-league english side deserves the chance more than any mls players do.

What they should do is have a panel of judges on the side line who have buzzers that give the ref an electric shock when they want the play stopping

Sky6 sod of to the Euro Super League Spectaculoso broadcast on 84" plasmas to people all over the Multiverse.

Meanwhile, all the remaining teams are forced to only pay players a capped wage that is well within the budget of running the clubs and now renovated or new stadiums.

Everton could probably still broadcast all their games to all the fans via the world wide web.

I'd still watch and support them forever.

I would be in favour of City, United, Chelsea, Arsenal Spurs and the Sh1te doing one. Let their fans pay premium rates for everything and as you said Mugs, the reamaining clubs can create a much fairer, level-playing domestic league.

Getting rid of them would drive down the prices and make the game the people's game again
