I bought a new set from American Golf for £99,Not the best but good enough to see if you want to get into it more and spend big money on better equipment

I am thinking about starting to play golf and someone is selling some clubs near me on Ebay.

Has anyone used these or similar? Would they be worth buying and then upgrading if i decide that i want to play more frequent. I don't want to go a d spend £250-300 on a cheap set from a shop and then not enjoy playing or not play regularly.

Thanks for any advice.

tbh - I'd pick up a second hand half-set from somewhere. Your local club probably has a shop selling 2nd hand stuff, or have a look on freecycle

Started playing now and really like it. Got a cheap set for £200 and haven't looked back. Now looking to get some lessons to improve my game.

Do many people on here play? If not i would recommend it. What are your handicaps?

I would forget about buying any clubs until you have had a couple of lessons from a Pro. Should be no more than £50.00. They will teach you more in those 2 hours than you will ever pick up hacking around on your own, and stop any bad habits developing.

I play a bit, had one lesson from a Pro, and I am not kidding, was hitting it 75-100 yards more after he changed a few things.

My dad paid for me to have lessons from a Pro for two years. As such I am pretty good. All that money is wasted though as I hardly ever go out for a round anymore.

I have a set of Wilson Fat-Shafts (steel, graphite doesn't suit my swing) that I picked up for half price back in 02 or 03. I think I paid around $500 for them. Stonking clubs they are.
